Not totally relevant, but I had a B&M shifter in my R53 and it was totally awesome. Firmer shifts, shorter throws, more notchy in that you could really feel each gate. Very nice. If it's adaptable to the R56, or they come out with an R56 version, I'd recommend it.

I think Helix has the shifter extention...but I don't have any good experience with that to comment.

The Helix extension looks nice, rather than buying a full ss kit for 150-200.

Anyone use it? before on the R53/6

I know of a prototype SS that was just completed over the weekend. Given his experience with Subaru, Mazda, and Evo shifters I think you guys will like what he's come up with. They should be available through a new vendor here soon.

Haven't actually used it, but I like the idea of the adjust-on-the-fly Cravenspeed. I just am not a big fan of their ****.

I have the Helix and am very happy with it. I wanted to retain the stock shifter height and look, Helix was just what I wanted!

mini mark- you notice a big difference, or is it that since it says it makes your throws shorter, you just belive it is, when its really not.

It is a lot shorter, I think they say something like 40% and I would say that is about right. Now it does take a little more effort to move the shifter, but nothing bad at all. You do have to leave the dust cover off the bottom of the shifter box, but I am going to modify it and put it back on. A lot of the short shifters actually lower your shift ****...I didn't like the idea of reaching so far down to grasp the shifter. I think you would like it and it's easily reversable!

I have a B&M not installed yet, is the stalk shorter on installation?

Don't know about the B&M...You should be able to tell by measuring how much stalk you have above the pivot point and comparing it to the stock.

Feel free to swing by the shop and check out the shifter for yourself. This way you can decide first hand if you like it.

Wink, Wink, Say no more, say no more.

It is true. we have just become a vendor here. i did a proto shift kit last weekend. i am 99% happy with the setup right now. i need to do a little tweeking to get it just right.

i will post some pictures in the next few days. along with a proper vendor annoucement about myself and my company. if you have owned a subaru or driven one theres a good chance you've seen what we produce.

Tom, will the new shifter work with the R53 (doubt that it would), or will their hopefully be model for the R53 if not?

Just installed the Helix S/S myself, 100% improvment over stock shifter. I did modify the dust cover and reinstall it. The job took about 2 hrs.

Not sure on that one just yet. i have a feeling it wont be the same but you never know. i might be able to do the design to make them universal. Believe me that makes MY life a whole lot easier

I have one of these but have not installed it yet. What modification do you have to do to the dust cover? I know they say leave it off, but I have now heard of a few people getting it back on.
Thanks for any help.

What i did on our car was to heat up the cover with a heatgun and sort of massage it down where the shifter will interfere. our first shifter was a bit long on the lower end. i think with a few adjustments we should be able to do it without modifying the cover.

thlaxx,

im sorry I didnt respond, but I didn't check back in this thread until just now. We aren't open Sundays and we usually come in on Saturdays to work on our own cars or to accomidate a customer who really cannot make it in during the week. When you are ready to come check it out, just pm me and let me know and I will make sure the R56 is in the shop for you to check out.
