Not sure I quite understand, not arguing as I currently have a MMI for Apple Carplay but the screen cuts off too much on the side following the curvature of the speedo so it's annoying and would definitely want touchscreen as the center console **** is slow to respond.
The whole nav screen comes out just like a regular speedo gauge on non-nav cars would and all there is LVCD wire and the other wire for the fuel gauge/speedo/warning lights. Isn't that the same for all R56?
All the information to the screen is sent from the CIC headunit in the dash below it and did not see a separate box.
Yep no problem. Dont know what happens if you try to combine to two? Or if you can cut up and make it work with the Bremmen Screen, never had anyone do that.
Has anyone installed the Bremmen CIC unit for original LCI MINI Navigation Screen R55/R56/R57/R58/R59/R60/R61 MINI Coopers 2011-2016 With CiC Navigation?
I finally got around to installing the Bremmen CIC unit and the CarPlay comes on!
However, I have 2 questions:
1. I connected the Bremmen 3.5mm output to the factory Mini input and I don't have any CarPlay audio. How do I switch the audio from AM/FM radio to CarPlay audio?
2. How do I get back to the factory Mini screen (AM/FM radio, CD etc.)? When I press the home button it only goes to the Bremmen home screen.
Thanks in advance!

Reason: I figured out my first question and have 2 new questions
1. On mine I have to have the factory system set on Aux Input to hear any sound from CarPlay
2. Press and hold the home button, it should take you back to the factory Mini screen (at least that's how mine works).
Thank you for your reply, you fixed half of my problem (holding the home button works)!
Unfortunately, I still don't have any CarPlay audio with AUX selected. Am I doing something wrong?.
The Apple CarPlay on my Bremmen CIC unit is working great! However, I'm having a problem getting the back-up camera to work properly.
<Summary>
The back-up camera works great (when put in Reverse) when the IG is in the ON position (see pic). The camera stays on as long as the car is in Reverse. The problem is when the engine is turned ON, the camera initially comes on (when put in Reverse) for about 4 seconds then shuts off. It doesn't come back on even if put in Park, then back to Reverse.
My settings:
**PLEASE HELP ESC Tuning, Bremmen, bluonyx or anyone! **
I tried 2 different backup camera's and am still having the same problem where the camera comes on (when put in reverse with the engine running) and it shuts off after 3-4 seconds (and doesn't come back on). I triple checked the wiring/connections and it seems to be correct.
As previously mentioned, the camera works great (when put in reverse) when the IG is in the ON position (with engine not running). This is the only way the camera stays on as long as the car is in reverse.
Just saw this and only thing i can think of is either something is wrong with the trigger wire. Reverse wire that signals the unit to go into reverse camera. It should be sending a signal, the fact it does and then stops means the signal drops. I would put a voltmeter on that trigger wire and see if the signal drops or votage drops after 3-4 seconds. If it does something in the contact or switch unit on the shifter is bad or something.
It should work with other cameras, its just normal rca outputs. Does the backup look like it has the same outputs as ours? Same ones used?
I guess you could swap in a new bremmen unit, might be a software glitch in the unit. If you test everything and it still ok on the wire side. You have to call in for a return and new one.
For some reason Mini made the signal pulse so you have to add the relay to make the power constant or your backup camera will not work.
Interesting... This is the first time I hear about relay being necessary for backup camera install. When I installed aftermarket head unit with CarPlay in 2013 R56S I have added camera as well, but didn't need any relay. Just pigtailed the reverse wire to corresponding head unit wire and it all worked as expected. Is this needed on certain models/years by any chance?
Mine is a 2015 R58 with no factory camera and was needed. So I assumed it was on all the R models that didn't come with a factory backup camera.
I didn't need it on my F series Mini.
Interesting... Mine didn't have a stock camera either. Everything was aftermarket.
But the fact that camera stays on for OP when engine is not running might indicate it's not a pulsing signal issue in my opinion.
I would start by double checking all connections and then checking the voltage as @ECSTuning has suggested above.
Could be defective unit or its firmware too.
Engine not running: 11.5-11.8V (camera works)
Engine running: ~13V (camera shuts-off after 3-4 seconds and does not come back on).
It's strange that the camera works properly when the voltage is lower, you would think it would be the opposite! haha
I'll try running a relay and see what happens!
Where did you check the voltage? There are 2 wires I would check. One going to camera (if that's how you are powering it up). The other going to head unit to signal it to switch to camera feed.

The voltage is the same at the camera and at the signal to head unit.
The relay worked!! Thank you Bluonyx, DogfaceSGM, ECS and the forum for all your help...much appreciated!
Next question...does anyone have any instructions on how to connect the screen mirror function on the Bremmen CIC unit? The instructions included are very limited.
Glad you got everything working, as for the mirror function I can't help you there. I personally never used that feature when I had mine. I'm sure someone will chime in, GL!
We have a 2018 Countryman with factory Nav, touchscreen, backup camera, and Carplay is active. Would the Bremmen or MMI add-on give us wired or wireless Android Auto? We refuse to drink the Apple iPhone Kool-aid.
@ECSTuning - I was looking to purchase this kit for the CCC system in my 09 Clubman but just noticed the ETA is towards the end of February?? Is that accurate? If so, why such a long lead time? Is Bremmen looking to end production on the CCC variant?
I have an 05 R53 with stock Alpine CD53 R50 head unit. Non HK, no NAV, and no Chrono. I do have steering wheel controls. Back up lights are in the tail light assembly.
I purchased 3 items from ECS:
OW-1D6288W Head Unit
OW-HS8020 License Plate Light Backup Camera
Harmony Factory Stereo harness adapter
I have several questions/concerns I need help with.
My apologies for all the questions but the instructions aren't very clear and I don't want to have to take all this apart later to "redo anything. I can ad more pics if needed.
1 - The head unit only came with the wrap around mounting bracket. There is no way to secure that bracket without cutting plastic and/or gluing it. Many head units come with mounting wings. Are there mounting wings for this unit so it can be secured using existing holes like the original head unit? Will the Metra 99-9302 Single DIN Installation Kit from ECS work?
2 - The back up camera itself has a red and a black wire coming from, what appears to be the LED for the License plate light. That's the power for the new led light and needs to be connected to the existing license plate light feed wires. Correct?
3 - The back up camera cable end going to the camera, has a red and a black wire. Those need to be spliced into the wires that feed the backup light in the tail light assembly. Red to the power and black to a ground. Correct?
4- The back up camera cable end to the head unit has a green wire. Is that for the pink parking sensor line, ground, or something else?
5 - The Harmony adapter has the speaker wires on one side and a blue, black, and yellow wire on the other. The red wire it came with is for 12v constant and connects to the yellow 12v constant wire on the new head unit. The blue wire is for power antenna if you have one. The black wire is ground and connects to the black ground wire on the new head unit. Correct?
6 - Which pin on the Harmony adapter should the red 12v wire be inserted?
7 - The Harmony adapter has a yellow wire for memory. Where does that connect on the new head unit?
8 - Wiring harness for the head unit. Does the Pink wire parking sensor needs to spliced into the back up light positive as well? What is the brown brake line wire for? Is the blue wire for power antenna if you have one? Is the orange wire use to turn on an additional back light if you have one? Where does the red ignition switch wire connect? Where does the orange/black steering wheel control connect?
9 - Do I need to have an additional controller for the steering wheel controls?
10 - The head unit did not come with an antenna adapter. Will the BMW E39 Antenna Adapter work?
11 - Is the Harmony adapter I have the correct one? It does not have an orange illumination wire or anything to connect the steering wheel controls.
OEM Connector. Where does the red 12v constant wire go? Where does the steering wheel control orange/black wire connect? Where does the red ignition switch wire go? Would like to use a wing bracket and use these holes. OEM head unit model.
Thanks,
Monty

Reason: Changed title and added info.
Uploaded a new install PDF and updates some Info to make the install more seamless as that's a universal head unit single din that MINI people have found to make work.
@ECSTuning I'm looking for the CCC version of this, your site shows end of March shipping. Will you have a bunch in stock at that point and I can order then? Or should I order now to secure one from that batch?
Also, do they still not support wireless android auto? I suppose I can add a wired to wireless adaptor to get that but was just curious if they have added support for it.
