Thanks

Hi @ECSTuning , so I did order this part, and it actually shipped earlier this month. So that was great. What isn't great is that today I tried to install it and I think it's defective. I've submitted a message to your customer service, but figured I'd ask here as well. Is there any technical support for these units that might help me solve this? Or do I just need to get a replacement and hope it works better? My issue is that the screen just flickers constantly and I can't interact with the unit (video attached showing this). I've triple checked all connections, and returning the wiring to stock shows that the screen works fine, as does the LVDS cable to it. So something is wrong with some part of this unit. Any advice for figuring this out?

Hi @einstein_314. I also ordered this for my CCC system back in October and ended up getting it shipped to me in early December. I went to install it right away and had the same exact issue you are having now and decided to return it to ECS.

I've attached a video from my install back in December if you want to check it out. I hope you didn't get the same CCC unit I sent back. I fiddled with it for about 2 hours before deciding it wasn't worth keeping a $400 kit that was already defective.

Let me know if it ends up being something simple. I think the only adjustments you can make is with the dip switches on the box. Good luck!

Well I'm glad it's not just me! Our problem looks basically the same, maybe mine looks a bit worse but both unusable. Were you also not able to interact with it?

This better not be the same unit you had a problem with! It didn't seem previously used - everything was nicely bundled like I would expect. But at the same time, they estimated shipping in April, but then shipped me one in January so maybe it was your return that let them do that ... I will mention this to them and see what they say.

And I agree - there's not really anything to fiddle with to solve the problem so it's either a bad cable/harness or the unit itself. I'll report back with how this turns out.

I could not interact with it using the Navi toggle/buttons nor could I get a phone to link up with it via USB. It was completely unresponsive to any input and only showed the slightly off-center, flickering screen.

I've wanted to buy this kit for a long time and took the entire center dash apart to install the same day it was delivered so it would be ready for a 12 hour drive the next day. Needless to say, I was beyond disappointed with the outcome and had to resort back to my phone screen for the trip.

Yeah, pretty much same experience. It is quite hilarious how much of the car dash you have to take apart to do this install (or any headunit work for that matter). I'm going to leave my dash mostly disassembled until I sort this out ... can't bring myself to reassemble it all only to take it apart again. A side quest I have is my screen has a huge dead spot on it so I've got a replacement LCD to swap out. Ordered the wrong one though so now I have to wait for another of those ... wasn't a very productive day that's for sure.

Sounds like bad unit, just get one exchange. We have an install PDF linked on the product with helpful tips. I would also make sure its hooked up right, one small error can create all kinds of issues. Like any head unit, its kind of technical (we have a PDF) and local electronic install shops are good to use, they install similar on BMW, Audi etc... if you cannot install on your own.

Hey @ECSTuning , I can't find this install PDF you mention - there is no such thing on the product page for the CCC unit. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-bremmen-...1954la02-04~a/

I definitely triple checked everything, and completely redid it multiple times (checking that reverting to stock configuration was still okay since I suspected a problem with the LVDS cable between the head-unit and the screen - but that turns out to be fine) all to the same effect. I'm no stranger to working on head-units and am very technical in general so I'm confident this wasn't caused by me doing something wrong. checkeredJCW having the same issue makes me think that either I got his returned unit, or it's a bad batch from the factory?

I'll follow up with support - I was being forwarded over to the MINI specialist for any tips. (Maybe that's you though? ha)

Hello,

Sorry thought you were talking about the main display head unit version. Yep they will reach back out. Sounds like a bad unit also their. Could have gotten banged around in shipping and messed something up. This cold weather and computers dont mix either .

Did you get an included install doc in the product? Here is a technical install doc to help https://assets.ecstuning.com/edoc/BMW.pdf

Yep they come to me if technical anyway.

Thanks

Yes, that doc (or a similar version to it anyways) was included in the box and helped with understanding what went where. Although once done it was clear that there is only really one way to do it anyways. I will proceed with the return/replacement and hope for better luck the second time ...
