1st Gen Brakes MCS to 1st Gen. JCW Brakes
1st Gen Brakes MCS to 1st Gen. JCW Brakes
I have just got a complete set of 1st gen. JCW brakes that I am overhauling. My question is: my '05 MCS has the standard brakes with the Banjo brake line hose fitting, can the banjo fitting fit the JCW brakes, or do I need to get a new non-banjo brake line hose.

Gen 1 JCW brake calipers use the same hose as the standard calipers. Gen 2 calipers (which use the same size disk as Gen 1 JCW; & are often referred to as "the poor man's JCW brakes") use a hose with a different fitting (screw in, I believe). You can buy Gen 2 rotors from any auto parts store; they work fine for the Gen 1 JCW calipers. That's what I did when I had them on my car before I switched over to Gen 2 JCW (Budwig) calipers.
Standard Gen 2 calipers (not JCW) can be had for a modest sum from a salvage. You just buy Gen 2 rotors & pads. The rotors & calipers bolt up with no modification; & do give a substantial improvement in braking power & fade resistance.
