How To Maintenance :: How-To do Seafoam Treatment R55/R56
Same thing happened to me when I did this the 1st time as well. However, I was told that I should keep the RPMs up to about 2500 the next time I try this again. So I did. The smoke was thick for a time but eventually cleared up. I do this a few nights before my oil changes and my Minis MPG has increased. Also, someone posted that the dealership does this and leaves it in the car overnight. Maybe it'll work for you?
Just did the treatment to mine. Started it up, poped the hose off and poured it in slowly and holding my thumb over the hose. Did this about 10 times using about 1/3 of the bottle before reattaching the hose and shutting down for about 30 min.
Starting back up, had nice clouds of smoke for about a minute of rough idling and driving about a mile. End result is slightly smoother acceleration and lower idle. Idles about 50-ish lower than before.
Will do another treatment before installing my BSH catch can/boost port and getting tuned.

Did the SeaFoam thing the first time at 23K and noticed an immediate improvement in idle and performance. My question is whether one treatment is enough to clear out 23K's worth of carbon? Plan to repeat with every 6K oil change from now on. Thanks for any help.
There is no way to know...
but if things got much better, be happy and just do it with your regular service.
You could get a boroscope to poke around and look inside, or remove the intake manifold to examine the backs of the valves, but it would just be easier to do a couple more treatements!

I'm sure with higher miles one treatment isn't enough. Besides, it's easy to do and seafoam is pretty cheap, so may as well do it a couple times before setting a regular interval for yourself.
Wow - what a HUGE difference for me... Just bought the car 2 weeks ago, and about a week ago, performance just took a nose dive. The car has 86000 miles on it.. It's felt like it has been in "limp" mode for about a week. No CELs at all, but it still wasn't right.
Now it's back to normal (or what I remember to be normal) and there is no massive hesitation at startup.
Best $7 I have spent on this car so far... 2 treatments in the intake and the rest went in a new tank of gas....

Thirsty Fire, Since SeaFoam is not available in your country, any of those products should work fine if they make claims for carbon removal or intake valve cleaning. Just use the same as SeaFoam. I have done it with http://www.renewablelube.com/pdf/2I-...onditioner.pdf and had great results, plus it does not smoke like SeaFoam! I also add 1 ounce to each tank of gas as a maintenance dose.
Did my first sea foam today at 36k. Smoked like a champ. Also changed the oil and the spark plugs.
Only findings where one spark plug had very minor carbon on it. Seems smoother accelerating at low speeds but that could be my imagination. I'll post any further findings.

Just did mine, just shy of 19k. Neighbors are not happy about the giant cloud of smoke. Unfortunately, the wind changed directions and filled my garage up with smoke. Food and water tastes funny now and i have a headache. Do not walk thru smoke to get out of garage, RUN. At least, now i know how the Spyhunter smoke screen works.
got the CEL, Navi says "Increased Emissions", i figure it'll go away after a long run on the freeway cleans off the O2 sensor.
Idle was immediately smoother and power seems to be smoother as well on a short run to the bank. I did notice a large amount of water inside the tailpipes and on the floor behind. I assume it's because i was driving in the rain last. Im going to do another 1/3rd later and let it sit overnight and send up another cloud way early in the morning when i leave for work, no one will be the wiser.

Just did my first Seafoam treatment (thanks for helping ndylam). All I can say is wow!!! I must be doing something good as there was ton of BLACK smoke that poured out of the tail pipes. I have about 15.5k miles on my car. Never did a engine treatment on the car. No CELs either.
I am happy with the results.

FYI to all you Seafoamers. If you get that stuff on your skin, I'd advise washing with COLD soap and water ASAP! It's loaded with some powerful, nasty organic solvents like naphthalene and I suspect toluene and benzene as well. Ever wonder why not even a skunk will get near a moth ball? Naphthalene!!
one question,

I seafoamed my R53 today and sucked the seafoam through where the grey line, the thin line below the IC cover (you can't see it here but it's green arrow) since it was the one with vacuum.
but I got very little smoke afterwards.
Was I suppose to put the Seafoam to where the yellow arrow is pointing? that one didn't have any vacuum at all. no suction.

Thanks Oxy!
Oxy - thanks for posting this. Even I, a moron about working on cars, figured this one out with success.
I have to say that it does seem to make it idle smoother and there seems to be less hesitation (although that might just be due to the fact that I am looking for it).
I did pick up the spray can and probably used less than 1/3 of the can - more like 1/5th or so. I wanted to make sure that I was doing the right thing so I fiugred that little is better than a ton. Waited an hour and then fired it up to a bunch of smoke as expected. Note to self - turn off the AC/Fan when doing this so I don't blow a bunch of smoke into the cabin.
So....+1 from me on doing this. Simple, easy and it seems to have immediate results. Thanks for providing a video so even I can figure this out.

I could not find Seafoam here in my country but I've found 3M Do-It-Yourself Fuel System Tune-Up Kit
http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...gl4XNTZDZS4Bbl
Is it any good?

I live in Saudi Arabia, anyway thank you I can get it from Amazon but it will take some time thats why I'm asking if that 3M is good alternative.
Uh....recheck page 1 of this thread. There is an R56 S video in position #2. They even have a nice looking NM Engineering CAI.
