vacation spots
Aloha, HI motorors!
My fiancee and I are finally getting hitched in October, and while we were planning on doing no honeymoon just yet, I've decided to surprise her with a trip to Hawaii! Neither one of us has been off the East coast of the US, so just getting to the state will be awesome enough for us.
Money is definitely an issue. Does anyone on this forum have travel connections that they could offer a fellow motorer? Minihune suggested contacting this forum as he didn't know of anything in specific.
In general, money is an object, so we don't need to go to Maui (this trip, anyway :smile
Thanks, and hope to motor with you soon,
Troy

Aloha capsfan13!
Good to hear from you. A well placed google.com search for some info will yield some ideas for you:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...ge+on+a+budget
Some suggestions- You should not feel obligated to pay attention to any of this- these are merely ramblings of a demented sole:
The big items for the budget are:
How do you get here all the way from the east coast-
Ideas- Do you know anyone that has mileage plus miles they want to use up? A relative that travels alot, a friend, a travel agent with comp coupons. Anything to save on airfare. I'm going to Scotland in July from Hawaii and I got tickets by using up mileage credit from United mileage plus. Round trip business class tickets for 3 (each worth $10,000)-Wait I could sell them and buy another MCS plus gas for a year.Wait Wait.
Where do you stay in Hawaii-
Ideas-Pick anywhere to stay, can be in busy noisy Waikiki or farther away is likely to be cheaper and less crowded and maybe less costly. In general- don't spend too much time in your room- get out there and see some sights have some fun. Do any of the Hawaii people know of something good and non costly for a pair of newlyweds on their honeymoon? Anyone need some house sitters? Anyone who drives a MCS has got to be trustworthy. Scouts honor!
How do you get around while in Hawaii-
Ideas-Sadly there are no places to rent coopers in Hawaii. or at least at a good price although some of us have more than one mini in their stable. How could that be? I guess they are just collectors of fine automobiles. Public transportation ala da Bus is quite good. Bike, scooter and car rentals are available. Gas prices are not too bad. About $1.90 a gallon. Could find a car rental with a vacation package- worth keeping in mind. Some things are within walking distance.
How do you eat for next to nothing-
Ideas-Unless you are into fine dining there are loads of ethnic food places here (cheap eats). Everybody has favorites and you will not go hungry with this stuff. Hawaii members- please let capsfan know what you recommend.
What things are there to do that are free or almost free-
Ideas-Things to do that are great and don't have to cost much- Go hiking, up Diamond Head for the great view, Go to the beach- besides Waikiki there is Ala Moana, Kailua, Hanauma Bay, and Haleiwa or Sunset on the Northshore. Buses go out there so no problem or you can drive. Go snorkeling at some of these places or try some special spots to find fish- there are a bunch we can suggest. Or go swimming at the beaches, body surf, or try out surfing- anyone got a spare surfboard?
How to raise even more money for a Honeymoon trip-
Ideas- Since you are not married yet. You can leak out to a few key people that you are planning a secret honeymoon trip and you are saving up for it. Hint Hint for some monetary gifts. And in order to save for the honeymoon be careful not to overspend on the wedding -afterall what is a budget for?
How long are you going to stay for?
A surprise? Does she know about MCO? Shhhh. Don't tell her about it.
