Looks like we're going to have at least a good handful of folks there. I still have yet to contact another old Mini guy, but I will do so today. He's not big on the whole club thing, but hopefully I can get him to come out with his Mini... it's super cherry.

Despite my best efforts the '71 Mini is still off the road. I've still got a few days to get 'er goin again, but I'm not real sure which way it'll go. At this point it looks like I might get it running in time for Spring Thing, but without some help from a few of my mechanic friends I don't think I'll be racing it. Failing that... I'll at least try to get it out to Zippys for the meet. If I can't do THAT, at least I've got the '02 MCS that I can bring

Oh - the guy with the green classic Mini that has the yellow Revolite wheels (4 spokes) said he's going to be working all day Sunday. Hopefully he can make it to the next one. He did tell me (last night) that he made contact with a few more "old" mini folks at the Yacht club...hopefully we can drag them out of the woodwork.

So, will there be any Minis or MINIs at all actually participating in Spring Fling? Just trying to gauge what we'll be seeing and when to come as I'll have Louie's folks with me and they're excited to see some Minis in action. Beastmaster, are you doing the course in your Mini??

I'll be out there, but won't have time to drive. I'll get that out of my system on Friday on our recon laps. I ran some laps last Friday, too!

You guys may see me out there during the instructors sessions, but maybe just for a couple of laps. I'm lending my car to one of the participants for the Car Control Clinic portion, so at least Little Beast will have some fun!

As for MINIs being there, I think we'll have @ 5 MINIs participating. I believe all of them are Cooper S'. One MINI is even being shipped in from Kona and should arrive Wednesday for servicing, tech and s/c upgrades.

Greetings all-
I have a Cooper S and will be at the Spring Fling doing some driving. Got the mini madness intake and madness rear swaybar installed. Sports package: 17" S-lite wheels with Pirelli runflats. Just made 2000 miles. See you there!

Minihune,

I'm very interested to hear how you like that rear swaybar. I've only got a few tiny complaints about the MCS, and the understeer is one of 'em. I know it's a factory thing for safety and whatnot, but it'd be nice to be able to at least suggest to the rear end what it should be doing

Ahem....Beast... don't forget about the one teeny-tiny red Mini that will be there!

Didn't forget it, but it is an S isn't it? Or a reasonable facsimile. Fear your 30 hp!

As for slalom, doesn't your car just go in a straight line through the cones?

Louie looks like a nice chili red/black cooper with 16" wheels from the little picture above.
Looking forward to meeting Louie's parents making the trip out to the islands. Lets show them some Hawaiian Aloha Spirit.

Hey folks... looks like after some nail-biting moments (and much swearing and gnashing of tools & teeth) that the '71 Mini aka Frankenstein will make it to the Spring Fling and Meet and Greet! (woohoo! ...and there was much rejoycing.) Had my buddy over last night to help me swap out the busted suspension bit. Only had one kinda scary moment in the whole process, and that was when we were using the "factory tool" to compress the rubber suspension cone. (Instead of traditional springs, the original Minis had rubber suspension cones that were much more compact...but what a friggin pain in the butt!) Anyway - the factory tool works from the engine compartment, down through the top of the subframe and suspension tower - one long bolt on a threaded rod... turns out the first time we had it in it wasn't quite seated properly. The cone and attached suspension trumpet that connect to the upper control arm decided to let go when the cone was pretty much compressed all the way. Thankfully my buddy came out of it with only a sore hand, 'cause that sucker really was movin! The 2nd time we started the process it worked much better. Got the new suspension bit in there, got the front shocks changed (rears tomorrow)... the newly cut drums back on...adjust the clutch... wash & wax, and I'm there!

Going to have to make sure I've got extra batteries for the digital camera and the DV cam is all charged up.
