It was a waterfall on my way to the stadium. It sort of cleared up at the H1/H2 merge but there was an accident there. I got to the stadium about 10 minutes later than I wanted. As I parked I felt my MINI shaking and I thought it was Troy hiding behind my car pulling one of his pranks but when I looked at the Tech Insp. tent, Troy and the rest of the guys were looking away from me and pointing; evidently, the light poles were swaying in the fairly long quake!

Minihune and company were there real early and laying the track out. Thanks Brad for making sure we had another fun time in this day of unfortunate happenings.

Folks, Brad was on FIRE today! I think a couple of times he had FTD! Thanks for tip Brad - worked well.

So how many showed up for autocross? With quake, rain, no power I decided i'd listen to folks saying stay home -that i didn't like autocross that much. Had cul de sac bonding experience with neighbors with gas stove-

 

You missed a great course and for us MINIs and SM was third heat when it was dry! There were 97 racers that showed up for a great day.

Once again, Minihune was on FIRE! He was battling for FTD a few times too. It's something to see Brad jogging around the course and then getting in that Blue Monster and doing his thing. IMPRESSIVE!

 

97 Drivers. Not bad considering the conditions. 16 new drivers.

I was there helping with course preparations about 630am and it's pouring rain on and off.

I ask curtis what he thinks, he says it looks "pretty good". Others that go to Nationals say they NEVER cancel autocross, they might put things on hold to let the lightning pass but they drive in the wet.

In S Mod class Dirk and I finished one and two out of 6 drivers. We were 3rd and 10th on raw times. It was a first gear only course for us. First time that has happened but it seemed to work not having to shift at all. I don't think I hit redline but I did get very close.

 

Oh man, I just got a call from erik808 asking me if I saw the results - I was on FH and did not know the results arrived. Hoooooooooooooo man! DAMN! It was REALLY a GREAT auto-x day!

Minihune, thanks for the first gear tip. My third run was my best thanks to the tip!.

The latest word about SCCA autocross events at the Aloha Stadium lower parking lot is that we have no dates to announce and there will be no event for November.

Seems that at the October Aloha Stadium Board of Directors meeting the Board expressed concern about safety of the Autocross events. The SCCA Hawaii event chairman addressed their concerns and the Board was then put into contact with the National SCCA safety chairperson but even after discussion the Stadium Board is still not satisfied.

So at the next Board meeting on Nov 30th, SCCA Hawaii will be given another chance to request Autocross events be given approval and dates for the future.

I don't have any other details to report right now. Stay tuned.

 

The latest for Oahu SCCA autocross events-

Ok mark your calendars…we will have Solo events on December 17, 2006 and January 7 & 28, 2007.

Pre-registration for the 12/17 event will begin on Saturday, 12/9 at 9 am. Limit is 100 drivers who participated in a regular SCCA Solo event from 4/06 through 10/06.

More information will be posted on the website as we begin to organize the events.

Please be on good behavior, we will have visitors to come and watch us.

Next two autocross events are sunday Jan 7th this weekend and Jan 28th.

Pre-registration is done online at SCCAHawaii.org on the saturday morning prior to the event. The link to reg is only activated at about 9am and will take 100 drivers then shut down.

All drivers that are new or missed the pre-reg will have to come in person this sunday for the day's event and sign in as early as possible for one of the thirty open slots. About 645am is good to come. Gates open at 7am.

Last event it was even at 4 each but MINIs did well in H-stock, G stock and SM classes. Evos were in E Mod and SM classes. They did pretty well considering they were new to autocross.

 

Jan 28th is the next autocross date at the Aloha Stadium.

Here is your chance to drive like a real MINIac.

No speed limit. Just don't hit any cones along the way.

It's fine to scare the cones all you want.

Sign up for veteran drivers is tomorrow morning online at 9am on Sccahawaii.org website. Just click on registration and fill out the details.

New drivers need to come early in the morning to sign up in person on 1/28 about 645am no matter if you want to drive later in the day usually heat 3 or 4.

The last autocross of this season is 2/4/07 and pre registration is tomorrow morning from 9am online at SCCAHawaii.org.

3/25/07 will be the championship run off event only open to the top five point getters for the season in each class. This is run in the morning and fun runs will be done in the afternoon.

4/8/07 starts the new 2007-2008 season. See the other thread on 2007 autocross dates.

 

Next autocross event is this sunday 2/4/07.

You can pre register at SCCAhawaii.org website.

If the link is not working anymore then they have reached the 100 driver limit.

You can show up in the morning in person to try for any open spots left over- up to a maximum of about 30.

This will be the last of the regular season events for autocross.

April 8 is the first event of next season.

March 25 is the run off event in the morning and fun runs in the afternoon for a limited number of drivers (about 60).

 

Last event for the 2006-2007 season is the championship run off in the morning on 3/25 at Aloha Stadium lower parking lot.

We will be doing fun runs in the afternoon. Sign up right after run offs are done in the late morning for one of the 60 slots for fun runs- about $10 for the afternoon. Drive on a autocross set up with an instructor or one passenger (needs rated helmet and closed shoes and be 12 or older).
