The original post and title have been changed so now the replys don't even apply or make sense anymore. Might as well just delete the whole thread.......

Yes, to reiterate, installation of an aftermarket pulley does not require any removal or any modifications to harmonic balancer which is part of the crank pulley. There is one aftermarket crank pulley on the market for the S which does not include a harmonic balancer and is actually smaller then the stock crank pulley which has negative effects on the boost the car develops by spinning the supercharger pulley smaller(smaller on NA engines is good, but not on FI unless part of a complete set of pulleys that takes the smaller crank pulley into consideration). Now if you had a crank pulley that was smaller that included the harmonic balancer you would have a weight savings that would be beneficial but you would need an even smaller supercharger pulley to countereffect the smaller crank pulley...more like 22-25% smaller instead of the 15-19% that is on the market now. Just for clarification as well - i have done this install myself.

There is no complete set of these on the market yet for a few reasons, install time is much more as removal of the crank pulley can't be done by just jacking the engine up - it must be dropped as going up it will hit frame rail. Additionally the gains from doing this are most likely very marginal over just the supercharger pulley and and would cost much more in both parts and labor, this would not be a mod that could be performed in your garage.

I do know about the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act and understand it. My attorneys will tell you so , but am worried as problems will be based on a case by case basis with info from each dealer's service department and MINI USA. They can always say that the pulley increased the sc temp and the resulting premature wear caused the sc to fail... You know, the usual BS so the claim won't have to be paid. Maybe my problems with my MINIs and my faith in MINI USA is showing through.

Also, I never spoke about sabotage in relation to Justin's post. It was MY thread that people had concerns about sabotaging the pulley parties.

I hope that we can all AGREE that a Power Pulley has nothing to do with the reduction pulleys that most Mini moders have on their superchargers. Dinan's article was in response to some "manufactures" and I use the term very loosely. Who are offering Power Pulleys (AKA under-pulleys) for the Mini hoping for a quick buck.To all hedonistics dilitantes, a power pulley is a very bad mod ... Thats my two cents.

Cheers

I had the pulley install without a chip. I also believe the there is a spring-and-dampening system that is contained int the dual-mass flywheel in the mini. The spring in the dual-mass flywheel isolates the engine vibrations that may damage the drivetrain. When you decide to put a lightened flywheel you may defeat the function of the dual-mass flywheel. I have some things to add:

1) Do your research before jumping in.
2) Be prepared to void your warranty.
3) Fork out the money for any damages that may result from your upgrade.

Justin just want you to do your research and think about it before jumping in.

(this is baronious)

2 different pulleys being talked about here.

1) CRANK underdrive power pulley
2) SUPERCHARGER pulley

#1 CRANK pulley is what esoteric is referring to. see pic attached from a leading CRANK and other underdrive pulley maker > Unorthodoxracing.com
http://www.unorthodoxracing.com/020611902.jpg
worked great on 2 of my honduhs. no problems whatsoever after major abuse.

#2 SUPERCHARGER pulley has nothing to do with esoteric's info. Supercharger pulley is what is referred to as typical "pulley party" for minis. see pic from Helix13's web site.
http://www.helix13.com/html/products/intake.htm

bottom line, refer to the pulley as CRANK or SUPERCHARGER when posting important info like this.

remember that you will be classed into SM at scca and might as well throw in a LSD while you are at it.

hey HI-MINI, when are you going to scca? didn't you get the LSD trip done? your car should easily be top 3 overall.

peace out werd yo.b
