New windshield but now new noise

Had the windshield replaced after rock chip this winter (yeah, winter in San Diego, ***** ***** *****) and now there's a faint, but discernible whistle that sounds like it's coming from the driver's side A pillar. When I checked it looks like there's a gap between the top of the gloss black trim piece and the roof, might be 1/4".

Can someone check theirs and see if that gap should be there? It's on both sides of mine which makes me think:
1) I'm loosing my mind
2) The tech either didn't install them correctly
3) There's a gasket missing

See if the windshield tech can seal any gaps with a bead of sealant.

+1 Had the same thing happen on a long road trip. Had that whistle, depending on prevailing winds, for the last 5 or 6 hundred miles of the trip. The glass guy took care of it in a few minutes after we got home.

had a similar problem once ....

Safelite had done the job and one call found them back out with new glass and redid the entire job .. that's their warranty .... 100% satisfaction ..... problem solved

B4 I called Safelite I needed to verify in MY mind if the whistle WAS due to the new glass so I tried this:

to verify or localize your problem ... just use some masking tape ..... apply tape to a wide area of the edge ... go for a drive up to speed where problem occurs ..... adjust tape and repeat .... you can localize the area b4 your guy starts slapping a bunch of sealant around cluelessly . . .

a gap around the windshield is common with today's mounting methods .... here's my 15 R59 ... I put coin in the standard gap around the windscreen ... this allows for expansion due to temp ...

Not unique to MINI ... here's the same thing on a 19 Mazda

the whistle comes from a gap in the sealant UNDER this edge .... it happens ... it's a booboo ..... question is how does your installing company DEAL with it . . .

Bingo! The Safelite tech showed up, looked at the 2 areas I had taped off, adjusted both A pillar trim plates up. Took it for a spin and now the only noise is the sweet, sweet exhaust!

To quote Col. Slade: "Don't she purr, though."
