Do a search of dealerships in socal and you will find many GPs for sale. The demand isn't as great as many expected. The demand is not even close to the demand the original GP had. I believe many are not willing to pay 40K + tax and license.
When I first inquired about the GP in Jan. 2013, MINI said each dealership would be getting only 1 so placing an order was highly recommended. Today, a dealership here in LA has 8.

That's for certain. But I think MINI expected more preorders.
I've heard that back in '06 all the GPs were sold out in the UK before before being released.
Does anyone remember how fast the 2006 GP sold out in the US? I know for sure that after a month from being released, there weren't as many as there are 2013 GPs now.

Im not understanding his response to your statement either. You are a 100% correct in that the GP's are not flying off the lots. I didnt think you were being negative just stating the fact that there are a lot of GP's still available.

Yes $1500 off is a good price. I think the sales rate was brought up to show why you were able to get $1500 off a limited production Mini.

Simple economics. If dealerships are not moving the GPs, eventually they will start discounting them. Supply and Demand. I think MINI did not foresee supply>demand. $1500 off is a very good deal.

Just wanted to tip in here. In 2006, it took a while to sell all of the 400+ US GPs, well into late summer, and we can expect similar here with the GP2. It is normal, and you can be certain that every one will find a home.
Discounts will vary by market as well as your relationship with the dealership. Some dealerships are still asking above MSRP (look at AutoTrader) while others are looking to move their inventory and will be more aggressive on price. I have no reason to doubt $1500 off MSRP.
Great car for sure, congrats to anyone who has (or will soon have) a GP2.
