My dealer sold out of all the GPs it had allocated in the first week. I think it was 7. They wouldnt even offer the USAA buying program or the $500- offthat USAA normally gets when purchasing the Mini. If people are getting them for some $$$ of the MSRP Great for them. I was happy at MSRP and I am loving my GP By the way there is one near me for $49950 on Autotrader number 0001 that guy bought 3

No it was proved not to be by Way Motor Works "I have a list of the VIN for all the new GP's and that vin is NOT #1, it is #0412"

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments! A few of us, however, seem, quite frankly, to be a bit childlike. Why would I lie about a 40K car buy? Why would I lie about my own price negotiation post?
In summary, I actually believe I let them off easy! My request was made over a phone call... it was quickly accepted... I'm just glad it seems that I got a decent deal... you never know with car negotiations... this is my 3rd Mini- 2005 base Cooper, 2009 JCW, and now '0014'... I'll post my first impressions on the other thread... Hopefully, it will be a little less hostile ~

The mini cooper, regardless of the version of the hatchback, is a great $30k car, but it is not a great $40k car if that makes sense.
In '99 Mazda pulled the same stupidity and evidently BMW/Mini didn't learn. They dumped the entire load of 10th Anniversary (10AE) Miata's on dealer lots and expected to net over-sticker. Really? You want me to pay over-sticker for this RARE version when you have 8 of them on the lot which is 5 more than any other version of the car?
In the end they sold for substantially less than MSRP and often languished on the lots for over a year. Sad thing since it was really one of the best of the groups. Mini should have paid attention...

That's a good strategy.
I always play it close to the vest when negotiating price with a dealer. I never let financing options enter into that discussion at that point...then I quietly arrange my own financing so when I go to close the deal in that little room and they try to talk me into extras such as an "extended maintenance program" I just tell them I'm not interested.
This last time the closer was going on and on about the future cost of maintenance and after 3-4 minutes of his spiel I prompted him to show me where to sign because I had to leave.

I dont know what to say about it but the guy was a previous 2006 GP owner and called in and asked for that number. I have 0256 on mine because I had 0256 original 2006 GP, and I asked for it. I really couldnt give a toss if it matched up with the Vin. It really doesnt mean much to me.
