The stock exhaust...
The stock exhaust...
I noticed in any of the low gears, while coasting...not accelerating, the stock exhaust will make a strange noise.
It's almost a sputtering noise and sounds very restricted.
Now, this doesn't happen all the time, it's sporadic as if it's trying to catch me off guard. I can't state that every time I'm in a low gear this will happen. It's just happened enough to concern me.
Also, the noise itself lasts for maybe tops 2 seconds.
This is my first supercharged vehicle.
I am used to my V6 (which has an aftermarket exhaust) and I have never heard this noise before.
Should I be concerned? I really would like to fix this myself. It's very rare that I take any of my vehicles to be worked on by someone else.
Any opinions?
Thanks in advance.
forgot to mention Vincent only has 100 miles on him.

I've already viewed the threads for the 2005 MCS exhaust problems. I would like to know if any other GP owners have heard it.
Logic states to me that even though it's a GP, it still has a supercharger.
Therefore, technically I could take the advice in the 2005 MCS's threads, however, I would like to be certain before I jump into it.

Its not a "problem". Its designed into the MINI. Its called "the burble" All MCS's especially since 2005 run a little rich so that when you let up on the gas, the unburned fuel "pops". Most of us find it pleasing.
You and I have the JCW exhaust. Its a little more pronounced with the JCW but its present in the stock MCS as well. Search "the burble". be the burble!

Popping/crackling upon deceleration in the lower gears is just the Cooper 'S' "Burble". Do a search for "Burble" here and you can read all about it. There's even a Technical Service Bulletin from BMW about it. It's a normal sound that was intentionally engineered into the car.
Most people like it - it sounds like a decelerating racecar. If you don't like it, I've heard that some aftermarket exhausts reduce the burble somewhat.
