I'm a family guy who needs a back seat. I'd buy this car if I could retrofit one. Do you think its possible?

I want the GP. When the time comes I'll deinstall the rear seat and take her back to stock...but my thinking is that it will hold its value better. In the meantime, I'll be happy and my wife will be happy.

You may want to consider buying a properly specified '05 or '06 MCS and let the current owner take the main depreciation hit. Enjoy the ride for a couple of years, and then get the R56 MCS JCW once it's been all sorted out for a bit of time. I've got 7,500 miles on my GP and I can certainly affirm I love it and it's great to own and enjoy. But, in many ways, I still very much enjoy driving my '05 MCS (which BTW is indeed for sale) and can enjoy the xenon lights, top quality sound system, and a number of other amenities that weren't available from the factory on the GP. Just a thought!

I too am attempting a rear seat install. I have the seats and all the brackets, just need the side panels and the rear seat latch stay. Am thinking of ordering the stamped stay bracket (if available) and bolting in place (instead of the factory tack welds) as a temporary installation.

Ondfly, how do you plan to do the side panels, are you getting used ones from a Cooper and just pulling the GP units out for safe keeping? Or our you using the GP panels?

Brent, you read my mind! The actual measurement is very close, about 3/4 in. or 3/8th ea. side. I plan to keet the cool red panels and attempt to set the seat in for a test run. I did not see how the outside edge of the seat tops fix to the body to allow them to swivel? Let me know your success with the stamped seat stay. I did not see the seat belt threaded hole for the autowind reel. There is one for the sling up higher on the pillar. The rear seat belt bolt is in the wheel well; how are you fix-in the center belts?

Lots of work to put rear seats in a car that was never meant to have them.

Let me make sure that we are taking about the same thing. I would like to find a way to put one more child in the back. I have 3, there is enough space, but the middle bump prevents this from been a simple mod. Is this what is been discussed? Or are you wanting to add a sit on the "trunk"?

I dont think this would be safe. TO me 2 children in the back of a car that isnt supposed to have rear seats is scary enough
