Reality vs Myth
Reality vs Myth
I never know what a wheel/tire combo is going to weigh until I get them on the same scales at the same time.
For example, I just received my new BBS RV-F wheels (17x7.5 in +42mm) with new Pirelli PZero Nero M&S (215/40/ZR17) today (very nice).
That combo weights 39.5 pounds.
Pulling one of the GP wheels with the stock runflat tire, that combo weights 41 pounds.
Granted, the tires on the GP might weight a bit less than when new (I'm approaching 8,000 all fun-filled miles on my GP) ... and, the Pirelli tires are 215 rather than 205 width.
But, I expected to shave more like 3-4 pounds of unsprung weight off each corner, compared to the 1.5 pounds I'm seeing this evening.
I'm still glad to get the new wheels and tires for daily driving (I need the ultra high performance all season tires, especially compared to the tractor tires we got on the GP stock).
