Rally style light bar

I miss the extra night visibility that had with with my driving lights on my Cooper(dealer installed grill mounted). I was considering a light bar like what Alta offers. Can anyone shed some light on this subject? Are they worth the money? Will I have to do some irreversible modification to the grill area? I do quite a bit of driving on dark country roads and I would like to avoid any dangers to my beloved GP.

I would like more light output for my GP, too. I just haven't figured out what would "look right" for the GP and, as you say, not cause irreversible changes. Hopefully you'll get some good suggestions here!

I think step one is a good re-aiming, I noticed my MINI halogens came from the factory cross-eyed. Put the light you have where you need it then decide if you still need more (I recently decided I do so I'm kinda looking at my options and think I'm going to go a method with custom brackets and some hole cutting) here is a thread to spark so intrest in other brands that are out there and possible mounting locations.

Goodfinder,

How's the car doing? :D I put Sylvania HID White halogen bulbs into Stanley. They help a lot--to 80/90% of Xenon levels. The re-aiming helped, too. Did that the first weekend I had him home.

Yeah, after proper headlamp aiming, I am going to put in the PIAA Extreme White H7 bulbs for the highbeams and also for the low beam (I think also H7s, but they may be H6)

bavarian auto has a nifty temperature chart somewhere on their website that will equate to brightness.

jimskater - I love the GP! It's truly a special car. I just wish I lived closer to twisty roads! Based on what you and Peter say here, I'm going to get my headlights re-aimed (I've put the PIAA H7 in both low and high beams, but this was after my first re-amining at the dealership to fix the incorrect initial setting). I just ordered at set of angel eye parking lights, for fun. My "mods" list (for the GP) is growing!

I recommend changing out your high beam bulbs with a set of 65w Osram H7 halogen's like found here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=110056104997

They make a huge difference, cost roughly $50 and take less than five minutes to replace. If that's not enough, then try the driving lights.

BTW, you won't find a better quality bulb than the Osram's.

Here's a comparison of the bulbs:

Standard H7: 55w/1400 lumens/500 hours
Osram H7: 65w/2100 lumens/500 hours

Here's a thread that includes info on how to replace the bulbs:

Great Advice

Thanks for the advice! I definately need to re-aim the headlights and the upgraded bulbs sound like a good start.
