Dealer Markup

Hello Everyone, I'm suppose to take delivery of my GP sometime next week from Global Imports in Atlanta. I was put on a waiting list like everyone else several months ago. At the time they were getting 10 GP's and I was number 12 on the list, so I thought I would just roll the dice. The salesman told me that there would be no markup on the car and it would sale at 31,150. Well I get a phone call a couple of days ago, the saleman tells me that 8 out of the 10 people have taken delivery and the other 2 he wasn't sure about because they were going through different salesmen. So he says that there getting an extra GP but there going to be marking it up 2500.00 dollars and put it out on the showroom floor, but if I want it, it's mine. I would really like to get this car, but on the other hand I kinda feel like I'm getting ripped off. Would like to know what all of ya'll think.
Thanks

An extra $2500 isn't really that much considering the car is already 31K. When I lived in California and I was thinking about getting a regular Mini S, they were all marked up about $2500, that was standard practice. I'm not siding with the dealer, I think the mark up sucks, but I guess they have the right to do it. I would say, suck it up and get the GP, you will not regreat it one bit!

So, what, he should bend over and hand them $2500 after they quoted him a price? There is not a single car on the market today that will make me pay extra to get a car. But, it is the american way, now isn't it? I balk at the thought of paying msrp. Suggested retail goes both ways. Pay the extra money if you want it that badly. As for me, I have never wanted anything that much.

Morristown MINI (NJ) has two new GP's on the floor for $31,150 - no additional BS included. Buy it in New Jersey and drive it home .

Jump in a new GP and drive non-stop from NJ to Atlanta - now that's hard to say no to.

if i am not mistaken

I may be wrong...
but i remember most of the dealers had some mark up or additional must purchase items when the Mini first hit the show rooms in 2002
with wait list and what nots
If you want the car get it

There is another thread about Morristown Mini. Some guy had a deposit down at sticker and the dealer backed out. Its now on ebay with a markup. I for one hope no one buys a car from them.

It was I they backed out on...The general managers reason, "I'm afraid you will drive it around with expired tags." "I've had bad experience shipping to that state"
Not only is it bad bissiness practice but to pull the GP out from under my fingers, MINIUSA is going to hear about this guy for a while! It was put on e-bay the next day for $3000 more than they were going to sell it to me!
Hint, stay far away from this guy.
If you live in NJ,NY,PA,please contact me!

You feel that way because you would be getting ripped off.

Mark ups are a *****. When I bought my 03 my local dealer was charging 5k with a 12+month wait list. People were lining up then.

I honestly would have a tough time in your place. I too hate markups, but even more I hate "I should have bought that..." They got you by the boot, and I think as time passes those markups will probably get worse not better since there are so few left.

Sorry, I am not any help...

I would like to thank everyone for all their feedback. I went ahead and got the GP from Global in Atlanta with the 2500.00 mark up. After driving the car I think its worth every penny and I don't regret it one bit. So now I'm the proud owner of 1696. Thanks again, David

Good luck with your GP and hope you enjoy it - I personally gag on even paying MSRP.
