where does the GP get those few extra HP?
Hey guys. I was hoping someone could shed some light on this subject. I have an 06 JCW, and ive always wondered what exactly gave the GPs those few extra ponies.
They BOTH have JCW logos on them, they both have the same what, everything almost? (engine wise) ( i know the IC is bigger, but more HP does not nec come from that right?):
pulley
SC
plugs
head
exhaust
so, as far as I can tell, the only real mod, other than the slightly bigger IC, is... the computer tune? I know the redline is Above 7k, to what, 7.25k or so? while my JCW is just Below 7k, at like 6.75k...
anyone see why i couldnt load a GP map onto my JCW for extra HP? or am i missing something else here?

You basically nailed it 100%
The only differences between the GP and the JCW mechanically is the GP Intercooler. The GP also comes with the factory Limited Slip Differential, exterior aerodynamics and JCW suspensions to help the car become a faster car overall. And the last bit of the puzzle is the tune.
Theoretically, you can load a GP map into a JCW. There are dealerships I know of that will load a JCW map onto a R53. You just have to find someone with the map and the tools to do it. I think most dealerships may not load a GP map onto a non-GP car only because the practices of using GP related parts on a non-GP MINI is a bit more strict.

As stated above, its the tune, its more aggressive. The bigger IC helps a little too, but its 90% the tune, 5% the IC, and 5% marketing
.
Just get a custom dyno tune if you want more power, the GP tune isn't going to do a while lot. Especially since you are running a 17%....go custom.

Tune can makes lots of power. To be honest a stock JCW or even an S with just a tune is more than enough car for for most people. I have added Nitto NT's and Race pads X10 front and X8 rears(Not enough if you stand on them) and that is it. She is beast commuting. Wet track day this weekend. Perfect as it is my everyday street set up. PNW guys are fast in the rain as we gets lots of practice.
