Save The Numbers Campaign

I am sure that everybody has seen the 2013 GP....but if you haven't, here it is....

Do you notice anything missing??? YES, The Numbers!! As I scroll through the GP forums I notice that not only do GP owners refer to their GP by name...but also by number.

Save The Numbers !!!

Can you explain a bit more about this?
What do the numbers represent? Limited editions?
Why is MINI discontinuing them?

Thanks.
I don't know much about GPs, but I have seen a couple of really nice ones out and about, here and there!

Ah, yes...

The GP is a limited edition built in 2006. There were 2000 built and individually numbered 0001-2000. 415 Came to the United States.

Some information copied from www.gpmini.net :

The GP has a significant number of unique features, including:
  • Assembled in Bertone, Italy from a “body-in-white” kit manufactured at the MINI plant in Oxford, England
  • The most powerful first generation production engine, with John Cooper Works upgrade, further boosted to approx 215hp / 180ftlb torque
  • Weight savings of almost 100lb by removing the rear seat and substituting aluminum rear control arms
  • Unique “Thunder Blue” body color, with silver roof and contrasting red mirror caps
  • Unique aero kit, including carbon fiber rear “wing” spoiler and underbody panelling for improved aerodynamics
  • Unique 18″ lightweight wheels
  • Unique “anthracite” speedometer & rev counter dials
I posted a pic of the upcoming limited edition (again, 2000) however, they do not plan on numbering them.

I agree they should be numbering these upcoming GPs. I don't understand why they wouldn't. It's a big part of what makes the cars so unique and interesting.

Thank you!
I knew the GPs were "special" but I didn't know any of the background.
I just came across a thread by someone who bought a GP and the original owner posted back with his story about the car when he owned it.
Pretty cool!

Absolutely the numbers should be saved.
Why aren't they planning to number the new GPs?
It seems that the numbers add to the value and allure of the car.

I have just been informed that BMW/MINI acquiesced to the Chinese who believe that numbering cars is bad Luck! Whether or not this bit of information is correct remains to be seen. IMHO, just another reason to be happy with the the original GP.

Ding Ding Ding....

The original will always be a classic, whether or not the newer versions will be...remains to be seen, especially if they plan on making a GP version of the coupe like its been said. The GP name will just end up being the hot version of the normal cars.

I reckon the original R53 GP will be much like the original M3 (E30). Even though there have been many successful M3 generations since, to this day the E30 is highly regarded and clean ones command a hefty price tag.

Yes, that is the same information that I heard from a very reliable source. My thoughts are this....number all the GPs that are not going to China...and send them GPs that are not numbered. Kinda like the lack of racaro seats for the us.

Yes, I love my current GPs....but it just doesnt seem right to have a limited edition that is not numbered. There are already enough limited editions...and the GPs have just been numbered from the start.

I know I may not be able to make a difference about this...but at least I tried!!

It's for that reason that I wonder if I should drive my GP to the ground or baby it.

I agree that they should be numbered where they can be. It's just one more thing to make them special, and not just a stickered up mess with some fun goodies bolted on

Well, I didn't buy mine with the intention that it will be worth something one day....if it is, then hey just an added bonus.

But at this point, I do plan on keeping it indefinitely...so why would I let it sit? I bought it to enjoy and use how I see fit . Take exceptional care of it, maintain it well, don't abuse it....but by all means drive it the way it was meant to be driven (hard!) and enjoy it! Over the long term...nearly everything can be fixed and/or replaced if need be.

If they really do become worth something...you can always find another to ****** up for "investment" purposes.
