Oil Catch can install and IC Flush
Oil Catch can install and IC Flush
Finally got a chance to install my Mini Madness OCC and was impressed with the nice carbon fiber inlaid can and connection hardware. Install was simple. While I was in there I decided to take out the IC and clean it as the last time I took it off to put in new iridium spark plugs I noticed it had a lot of fresh oil inside.
Went ahead and flushed it with hot water and Dawn to remove any residual remaining oil within the IC. Soaked it for about an hour and then flushed until clear and air dried for 2 hrs. The blew out any remaining water with compressed air and put everything back.
Took the GP for a spin and saw that the intake air temps dropped MUCH MUCH quicker after redlining the car. Usually the IA temps would spike from the heat generated from the SC and then remain steady hot. Now the temps would spike and then QUICKLY drop back to pre-redlining temps. Thats what I was hoping the results would be after removing the coating of oil that was inside. Air to air is very responsive in terms of dropping intake temps so this was what I was expecting to see.

Is there a DIY for the catch can?
My air filter looked like the original one also and it was pretty filty. There was like leaves, cobwebs, and other debris in there. Not typical of what I have seen on my cars. But then again, I think it was the original filter that was 5 yrs old. Thats one thing I've learned about buying super low mileage cars that have sat around. You're gonna have to comb it over and replace a lot of the expendables.
