High speed wiper problem

Hi, I'm new to NAM, and very happy to discover a GP group in here. I've been having a great time reading through the posts here. So, I have a question that may or may not be specific to this forum...

What woud cause the wipers to stop working in high speed mode? When I click the lever to high speed mode the wipers freeze in place wherever they are. They work fine in intermittent and low speed, no hesitation or anything. The on-demand wipe (pushing down on the stalk) works- but only until the lever is released, and only in low speed mode. I believe it is supposed to function in high speed mode when it is held down. I'm thinking the problem is in the stalk, or in the body control unit. Can the BC1 be brain-wiped and reset completely? Or possibly one single connection into the BC1 is bad? I expect a trip to the dealer, but I want to know what the possibilities are before I walk in there.

There are two small relays in the fuse box under the hood on the drivers side. One turns the wipers on and the other controls low/high speed. Most likely the low/high speed relay is bad. They are cheap so you may want to order two.

Thanks, I see them, right next to each other at the top of the fuse box. They seem hard to get out, are they locked in or am I just not pulling hard enough? I will definitely give your suggestion a try, Thanks!

They are not locked in, just hard to pull out. If the relat is bad and you swap them your problem should change to no wipers.

Hmm. Swapped the relays, and the problem remained exactly the same. I should mention that the high speed setting does very occasionally work correctly. It worked for a few minutes after swapping the relays.

Replaced both relays, problem remains the same. Any other ideas?

Did you replace the two relays nearest the winsheild? If you did the next step I would do is to remove the cover from one of the relays that you removed and insert it in the location nearest the drivers side of the fuse block. With the wpers operating you should be able to manualy operate the relay and the wipers should operate at the fast speed. If the wipers do not operate at high speed then you most likely have a bad conection at the wiper motor or a bad motor. If the wipers run at the fast speed when manualy operating the relay then you have a bad body .control module or stalk. It is also possible that you could have a bad connection between the stalk and control module or between the control module and the relay The body control module is vehicle specific and would need to be programed by the dealer if replaced. If you are at this point I would replace the stalk first. I hope that this helps.
