GP0936 Returns to Bonneville
GP0936 Returns to Bonneville
Last year GP0936 was the quickest of 8 MINIs at the Bonneville Salt Flats on the 1 mile "130 club" course.
This year we're going back to tackle the 2 mile "150 club" course with a target speed of over 150 MPH. (with a full roll cage installed per the rules)
I wanted to invite any MINI owners to join our group for this years "Assault of the Salt '09" held from Sept 16 to 19 in Utah.
We'll have 7 or 8 MINIs racing on the salt and party around a desert campfire every evening..........great fun. It's a perfect fall vacation spot.

Very clean looking install
What brand and model cage is it, and who did the ultra clean install?
I have been wanting to do a similar install but cant find anyone who can do it with all the interior panels reinstalled cleanly. Do you loose the function of any interior parts?

The roll-cage is a bolt-in unit made by Autopower in San Diego. Actually, it came out of a wrecked MINI racecar. I had it sandblasted and powder coated.
I did the install myself. Putting the cage in was easy. Putting the interior back in was the chore. I came to the conclusion when finished that a car with a full cage has no business having a full interior.
I lost 3 sun visors, a grab handle, and my glove box door in the process.
I also did not install the door bars but will when I go to Bonnevillle.
Thanks
Dan

Thanks for the wishes for our effort this year.
Yes, this car was in MC2 issue #18 in the Salt flat article.
In those photos it was wearing the skinny tires rear on the rear only. This year they go on all 4s for taller gearing on the 2 mile run. It will also wear an aluminum front dam on the car.
