Why are preowned GPs cheaper than JCWs?

GP's are suppose to be limited production MINIs correct? If that is the case, why are preowned 2006 GPs, cheaper than 2006 JCWs or at equal selling price?

For example, few weeks ago, saw a 2006 JCW asking $33k, and then I looked at preowned GP, asking $30k, and both cars had low mileage, if I recall GP had 11k, and JCW 8k.

In addition: This is NOT a lucky find, almost every GP and JCW I saw for sale were at equal price or difference of 3k (JCW costing more). I seriously think it's the extra seat in the back that adds more value to JCW. :-)

MSRP for GP is ~$31,500.
MSRP for MCS fully loaded with factory JCW can go all the way more than ~$34,000.

Yes, yes they are! Only time will tell if the GP will hold value while the JCW cars go down.

I'm definitely a newbie with MINIs, all along I thought it was the extra seat in the back that added more value to JCW. I did not know GPs were cheaper, definitely a bargain.

GP's are also still pretty new, so the used ones are still a bargain. give it some more years and maybe its value will go up. i for one love 'em and would take a GP over a regular jcw in a heartbeat

But don't buy one because they might hold their value - buy one because they are such fun to own

In the pre-owned market, the more mods (even factory/dealer installed) the lower the value for the most part. Idea being that the owner likely drove the car hard and more likely to have excessive wear.

While it's probably not as big a risk on a MINI as it would be on say, an Integra, the standard still holds true.

Personally, even though I don't have issues modding my own cars I would never buy a used car w/ any mechanical or suspension mods. Just not worth the risk.

I totally agree with you, I'm not comfortable buying modded cars as well. However, you have to consider there are some owners with modified cars that keep them in excellent condition, like myself.

I haven't reached the point yet, but I think I will in time. I know few guys that change oil every 2500 miles, hand wax for hours and even remove 4 wheels to clean the inner parts such as, brakes, rotors/suspension, etc. Unlike some OEM owners they simply take their cars to a car wash and go.

In regards to driving modded cars hard, not true to all owners. I know more OEM owners who drive their cars hard and I honestly think that's because they are not afraid of hitting bumps/potholes, second, not a lot of money and time was invested.

I always say, "when buying a used car, get to know more about the owner's personality, then the car."

yeah, i used to drive my car really hard when it was stock. Now i baby it since i have so much invested in suspension and tires and aerokit. I dont even drive it in the rain anymore.
