Can someone explain how the GP chassis is lighter than a stock MCS?

Holes, lots of holes.

Nah. I know they cut weight in other places. Bring a GP over and we will take it apart and weigh the parts

Ok, Lets take yours apart too and compare. Of course I am kidding too.

I did find some information. In order to reduce weight engineers made extensive modifications to the technology and bodywork of this special edition. The standard longitudinal control arms on the rear axle come in an aluminum version.

To start with, no sunroof and no back seat.

So two of the GP's "exclusive" mods can be done by anyone, and for less money.

I've done both and my MCS weighs 2470 lbs. with a gallon of fuel (also have much lighter flywheel, lighter battery, lighter front seats, lighter wheels and tires, etc...)

That's not to say that the GP hasn't employed additional technology to lighten it, but a big hunk of the weight difference is achievable by anyone.

I don't think the chasis has been modified or lightened any, just what's been attached to it. Don't forget along with the lighter rear suspension parts, rear seat and sunroof deletion, the designers also scrimped on soundproofing, left off HID headlights and a chose not to add the JCW STB.

Of course weight was added with the interior rear bar, JCW brakes and the larger intercooler.

The GP is truley the sum of its parts, or lack thereof. Sure you can build a lighter or faster car, or both maybe cheaper, but it won't capture the magic that is the Works GP.
