The Geezer Factor

I am approaching (or, arguably, well into) geezerhood. I thought that being both a MINI fan and a (near) geezer put me in a limited class. Well, the day I got my MINI I went to the supermarket. As I was loading up my car, an OLD woman came up to me and asked me about the car, syaing she really would like one. Yesterday, back at the supermarket (well, I do have 5 kids), an old man with a walker came up and wanted to know where the car was made because he likes them. Hmmmmm.... can it be I am slipping rapidly down the slope of geezerdom??

That has happened to me quite often as well and ALWAYS in the Giant parking lot. Maybe it has something to do with the retro factor.

Speaking of Geezers, I was out with some friends a few Saturday nights ago and to make a long story short, we were called Geezers by the bartender . Up to that point I had never even considered that I might be creeping into that catagory.

LOL. Kind of disturbing, huh? In my case it was Safeway.

The vanity plate on my Corvette is GEZERTOY. I plan on switching it over to my Mini next year. I'm 73 and have been in "Geezerland" a long time and lovin it.

Just chalk it up to good taste, or at the very least, to a visually appealing and easily identifiable design language; the Mini has fans of all ages. I'm 22 and I smile whenever I see one driving by (maybe because I mentally appropriate their cars to make waiting for mine easier).

I have friends who were utterly shocked to find out I have four kids college age and beyond. Folks who know me best, though, know I embraced my inner geezer long ago.

Proud Geezerette here, LynnEl! People of all ages love the MINIs, and as said by STEWIE, the geezies are attracted to the retro factor.

This thread reminded me of something I saw on the I15 Freeway on Sunday.

I'm cruising along, top down, listening to music, having a ball...and up comes a new Mustang beside me. I caught it in my sideview mirror and thought "nice car". I hear the engine rev and think to myself, "oh brother...another "kid" that thinks I will humor him with a demonstration of power". I look to my left, and there is a very old man (looked to be well into his 60s) behind the wheel waving at me with a huge smile on his face. I chuckle, wave back, and he speeds away....

His license plate read........."16 Again"

60s is NOT very old! And it feels great to be a geezer and feel young. As Dylan said, "I was so much older then; I'm younger than that now."

Funny thing is when you get to be about my age, "well into his 60's" doesnt seem that old Here is something strange....when I was younger, I would look at older people and just see older people, now that Im an "older person" I look at people and can imagine them at 20 or 30. Kind of a hard thing to explain but I guess thats when you know you are entering "geezerdom"

Yeah, I'm a geezer too, but I don't look bad in the mirror as long as I peer through the top of my trifocals. Nary a wrinkle!

I look somewhat tattered. But, my 17 year old lets me play drums with him.

I've been approached by people of all ages to ask about my car so I wouldn't concider the people who ask an indication of your geezerness (I'm 24 for the record). As someone mentioned before, it's simply good taste.
By the same token I have no problem walking up to people of any age to talk with them about their car, it's the best way to meet great people with similar interests.

Mickey Mantel once said..."If I had known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of my self". I now know what that means as my desires to do things, such as crawl around under the car and do simple repair work around the house is based on what my body says I can do. Sometimes that's a PITA.

I've known really young 70yos, and really old 30yos. A lot of it is attitude.

my favorite quote
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved corpse but rather to slide in sideways totaly worn out shouting holy s**t what a ride
My body is well on its way towards a not-very-well-preserved corpse.

What's so cool about MINI is that most people can find a lot they like about them. They aren't reserved just for 25-35yo soccer moms with 2.5 children, or 45yo male executives. It's niche is not having one (?). Isn't it wierd that people that like them are SO varied?

I agree, I always thought of a geezer as a way of acting/thinking.

I am far from "young" but I will never be a geezer.

The Wife and I decided our pet names when we reach a specific moment in time will be "Henry" and "Myrtle". The specific moment being the day we forget our real names. Occasionally, we have a "Henry" or "Mrytle" moment. They are quite hilarious.

I can still roller blade with the best of the youngsters in the neighborhood.

It's not the years, it's the miles.

Hey, I know that Satchel Paige quote, and use it quite often. Moreover, I have actually considered the answer and have decided I would be 33.
