The Geezer Factor
How 'bout Shrinky Dinks? And that plastic goop you blew bubbles with, using a straw? Can you imagine trying to market that stuff today?!
There are so many things that come to mind here...
That's the way it is, Friday, May 11....Walter Cronkite at the end of each newscast. And him crying when he announced JFK had died...
And now...page 2.... Paul Harvey
45's? 33's? How about 78's? I have a Victrola. Remember those?
Someone mentioned timing lights and dwell meters. Remember the window you could pull up on Chevy distributors to adjust the dwell while the engine was running?
Quadrajet carburetors
Delco shocks...radios..
On and on and on...
First time I felt I was getting old was when I read the wedding announcement in the paper of a guy that was my neighbor and I remember him being born.
Sigh...

A few more things that come to mind: 1. It's Howdy Doody time, with Buffalo Bob Smith and Clarabelle the clown. 2. Staying up late to watch Johnnie Carson. 3. Jackie Gleason and the Honeymooners. 4. Borrowing the family car on a Friday night, putting $1 of gas in the tank @ 19.9 cents a gallon and driving all over town. 4. My handle "colorado kid" on cb (citizens band) radio.
You know you're up there when you remember "This concludes our broadcast day..." or the NBC peacock with the announcer crowing "the following program is brought to you in living color."
Amidst the tragedy of the death of JFK, I remember no cartoons on TV (I was 4), and hearing from one of the older Donahue kids next door, that channel 5 would go back to a normal broadcast schedule (Chuck McCann & Sandy Becker).

If you were a kid in the Chicago area during the early fifties you would remember Garfield Goose and maybe the Two Ton Baker Show on the tube, and of course Romper Room and Howdy Doody.
Pedrocooper, there were cartoons. I'm thinking of Tom Terrific, Mighty Mouse, Tom and Jerry, Rocky and Bullwinkle and of course Looney Tunes and Popeye.

Paul Winchell and Jerry Mahoney, and of course Soupy Sales. I'm surprised that Kukla Fran and Ollie wasn't on there.

You'll be a geezer someday andyzoob!
Oh hell yes. I don't remember if I had a crush on little Penny however. OK, how about Wanted Dead Or Alive, Sugarfoot, Cheyenne, Have Gun Will Travel, The Rebel? I'll bet that whippersnapper TanchoGirl doesn't remember any of those either.
Remember Kodak Instamatics with flash cubes?
As a kid in Sacramento, it was Captain Delta in the morning, Capt'n Sacto (Good ole Harry Martin) and Diver Dan in the afternoon. Cartoons!

This is for the young Geezers and Geezerettes--remember phones you carried with a handle in a little suitcase? I had one in the 80's.
For that matter, how 'bout Princess telephones and the revolution they started?
For the aviation minded--remember Constellations and DC-3s? We lived on the flight path to Midway airport--then the busiest in the nation. Love those old radial engines!

When I was a nine year old Philly kid in '56 Claribel made an appearance at a shoe store down the street from my row house. My best friend and I waited in a long line to meet him and get either a prize or shot by his seltzer bottle (sure!). When our turn came we pulled out our clear, plastic water pistols, shot him in the face, ran out, turned the corner and kept on going...laughing all the way. What a memory!
The Flying Crown Ranch; nephew Clipper, niece Penny. My Little Margie, Vernon Albright, he worked for Honeywell & Todd, the old lady across the hall - Mrs Odetts. Boyfriend Freddy, Vern's girlfriend Roberta. Crusader Rabbit & Raglin T. Tiger (may have been only a local NY cartoon). Funny growing up, as children, we never knew TV shows were local. We thought everyone got the same shows all over the country.

I remember when Saturday night was FRIGHT night. In the New York area we had Chiller & Creature Features. Chiller was home to the famous 6 finger intro.
