New Car Blues
I don't know... For months, through the thinking about getting a new MINI, through the ordering, waiting... I have been as excited as a kid before his birthday. But now that my car is awaiting shipment, I am stuck with a strange feeling of ennui. Weird.

Maybe the wait was just a little too long and your brain is trying to tell you that it was overloaded with anxiousness (??).
Whatever it is, I would bet it's going to be short lived. So... like yesterday's baked beans, this too shall pass.

Does this have anything to with the old addage: "A bargain is still a bargain if you like it when you get home"?

I think once you get the car, you will be "happy as a lark". I thought the same thing when I got got mine. I thought, "Oh my, what have I gotten myself into?". Now, it's joy/contentment/happiness all the time. Ok maybe not that far, but you get the point......

LynnEl,
Perfectly understandable... Waiting is the hardest part (hey, I feel a song coming on...)
It's hard to be 'up' about a new acquisition for a long period - you need the payoff! I'm a boating nut too, and here in the Midwest you have to take ~5 months off for winter; I run the gamut from being tired of the whole thing and ready to get rid of it (late fall - sick of working on it & paying for it) to being like a kid on Christmas (when it goes back into the water & it's clean).
One thing you do want to avoid is blowing things up so large in your head that you find your self disappointed when you get the car. I wanted a Mini since before they came out, I finally bought one off the lot 6 weeks ago, but I built it up so much, I was disappointed during my first drive. That wasn't so good! (I almost passed on the deal, but I'd driven 150 miles to pick it up - and feared an 'I told you so' from my wife, so I went through with it). I'm glad I took it home - I hope you will be too!
Cheers,
Mark Gibson

I had the same feeling when ever buying a house... I think if you spend a large chunk o' cash on ANYTHING and then need to wait ANY length of time before enjoying it, its normal...
Just think, the wait is soon over!
And then you can **ENJOY!**

I went through the same thing on my MINI. Towards the end I was very irritable, and it was just due to impatience. Once I had the car, I was happy again.

When I was waiting it had a lot to do with numbers and no return.
Before she arrived all I saw was my down payment, my monthly payment, my insurance, how long the loan was for... it all got really depressing. You can't help but wonder "why am I doing this... for what?"
But soon you'll see it for the first time, and even though you've seen countless others on the roads, it'll be the most beautiful thing... because it's yours.
After you sit in and drive away from the dealership, the return will FAR outweigh the negatives.

I suffered from ennui as well when I first got my MINI, but only because I bought it in practically the dead of winter and had to suffer through snow, salted roads, and biting cold. Prior to taking ownership I lived through a few days of near-vomiting because I refused to believe I bought this car.
It warmed up a bit a month back and I rolled down the windows, opened the sunroof, and tooled around the back roads a bit. Put a smile on my face.
First week of April, and it's cold again. wtf

I know exactly what you're talking about. It's only natural--you've been lusting and waiting impatiently; it seemed like it was never going to happen, and now all of the sudden its almost here. The chase is always the fun part; there is a little bit of a let down when the goal is almost in sight.
But then once you get in and drive, all of that will go away. I've had mine now a year and a half, and I have just as much fun, if not more, driving it now than when I first got it. You get the keys, start it up, and all that post traumatic stress is gonna go right out the window (or sunroof, if its warm enough to open it)!!
