Arrogant MINI Owners
really need to be put in check. Our pride for our cars sometimes get ugly.
At the AMVIV track day with Wicks at Parumph, a volenteer instructor had a 924 race car. Well, it was on the track with Minis that day, and some in the stands didn't like that and were yelling invicteves. As if this wasn't bad enough, his wife and daughter were in the stands..... Needless to say, they heard it. Not a proud day.
If you were, or have been, one of the morons who takes pride in our cars to the point of insulting others, I personally don't want to have anything to do with you. Imagine if your family had been at an event to support your volenteer efforts and they'd heard insults from the very people they had come to help. What the f***? Please, keep basic manners in mind, and think of it from the others perspective.
ps, this reminds me that last year a bunch of people yelled at a vette to get the F out of the Mini area. Turns out is was the pregnant wife of an attendee who needed to drive where she was going..... Didn't we learn from that one?

Agreed. It's one thing to cheer on the Mini's, root for them. But acting like a bunch of nincompoop fanbois is not cool. Are we Mini owners or _________ (Yankee, Red Sox, Flyers, Raiders) fans?
That's pretty ugly. Something worth reporting to the organizers.
Usually at our local driving events we have a overall event chairman who explains that he sets down the rules and any behavior from any driver or spectator that is not in line, will be dealt with severely and that person or persons will be asked to leave if necessary. Zero tolerance is the rule.
Maybe it was the hot sun getting to the people.
They should all be happy to be at the track. My area doesn't even have a track.
Sorry to hear about this. Thanks for sharing.

I wasn't there so I don't know how it went down but from what I have read, if it was that bad... I am just curious, when the ugliness started, why didn't any other Mini owners stand up & tell the ones acting like a$$es to can it

Wow.
I'm glad I didn't have to see that. It's one thing to poke fun of other cars and their owners here, and another to flagrantly insult them in public. FWIW, whether I'm on the road, stopped at a gas station, etc. I always think of myself as a MINI ambassador. I want non-MINIacs to see the entire MINI community as not just cool cars but also cool people. Use your MINI to make friends, not enemies. It helps build our community and keeps us all safer while we're motoring.

Maybe the rude ones were drunk?
Still, there is simply NO excuse for such unkindness to other automotive enthusiasts.
Sorry Miniclo. I really did not mean to offend there. Was strictly trying to make a funny. Maybe an intervention is in order? I am suffering from 'no-production-date-itis', while others are getting cured.
I swear it is making do and say strange things. BUT, I would never, ever, be disrespectful of another automotive enthusiast (Al Gore is not an auto-enthusiast
). I might throw a tantrum, whine in the corner, and then suffer the ridicule from others for being such a twit, but I would never disrepsect another auto enthusiast.

You even get some of this behavior within the Mini/MINI crowd. Some classic Mini owners detest new MINI owners. A thread pokes up on minimania every 2 months or so. I happen to enjoy both cars, as well as many others, and don't understand the vitriol.
You know I hear everything you are all saying, and I agree, but I am not ashamed of them because they are MINI owners, hell I 'm ashamed that they are of the human race. Makes no differnence car, clothes, color what ever we are all people and that's what makes of differnent from animals. We are supposed to have a brain (USE IT)
A. What was a Porsche "race car" doing on the grid of a (supposed) all MINI championship race for points and trophies? You guys would be singing a different song if he turned out to be competitive or was punting people off.
B. What on earth caused a "volunteer instructor" on his home track to make the most elemental mistake of all - lifting in the last turn - and T-bone the wall?
C. I thought it was a silly stunt and said so. I don't care who heard it then, and I don't care now.
I have been against cross entering other makes in the MINI race from the first one at Laguna in December of 2005. It serves no other purpose than to plump up the field because it is so small. Nobody cared what I said then, how come they care now?
Matt, You weren't even in the stands to hear what was said, why are you making an issue of this? If you don't want to have anything more to do with me, that's fine by me. I guess you're not the only one who is Obnxs.

A. It wasn't anykind of Mini Championship. It was a track day for AMVIV. Spring Mountain is a memberhsip race course. Like a golf country club, but for cars. If it were some kind of sanctions race, then the Porsche had no business being there. However, from what I see, they had everyright to be on the track in accordance with their membership. It wasn't a race, it was a Mini Track Day. The Track members are not banned from using THEIR track just because the Mini's are allowed for the day.
Quote from Phil's website:
"Under the guidance and management of veteran MINI Cooper racer, Phil Wicks and his Phil Wicks MINI Driving Academy, the series provides an arena for MINI vs. MINI competition at an affordable price, in an affordable race car, at various race tracks across the country."
Regardless, seems to me the crowd had no real business being disrespectful to this volunteer. I for one think it would be appropriate to pull together something like a fruit basket or flowers with an apology to the family that had to endure it in the stands.
Whether the car in question belonged on the track or not is a completely separate matter from the people being rude in the stands. Keep that up and volunteers will stop volunteering.
I would like to do this. How can we find out the address of the volunteer in question? Is there anyone local that would be willing to help out. Just PM me a contact and I will do it myself, if need be.

I've heard some people say some pretty ugly things about MINIs at HPDE events. It's like the underdog (MINI) finally has it's own event (AMVIV) and wants it to be exclusive, especially eliminating cars like porsche that practically invented everything the MINI tries to stand for. Had it been a Kia Sephia, I doubt anyone would have said a thing - but the fact that we felt the need to insult this porsche owner and his car just highlights our own insecurities.
Let's just set it straight: porsches are better cars in every respect. You're dillusional to think otherwise. Porsche owners can afford 4 MINIs and have 4 times the fun you're having. GET OVER IT!
Now, sweeping generalities aside, sports events (like racing) are places where fans have the freedom to cheer and boo as they see fit. It happens all of the time and it's a product of our lovely freedom of speech, but it in no way is harnessed by ideas of common decency or general adult behavior.
