Extreme Injustice to ALL MINI owners...
Everyone - I caution you against overreacting to this. I already have had to delete one post and issue an infraction for it. Don't let there be more.
I don't like the strip either, it casts a strong and unfair stereotype... but trying to organize a witchhunt of offensive and angry emails to the cartoonist is not in the best interests of NAM nor the wider MINI community.
Bigotry and stereotyping happens in a lot of places... don't let it happen here too.

Well, it says nothing! It's left to your imagination. All I know is if I ran across that strip in the paper all I'd think is "COOL! a MINI!"
Baldo by Hector D. Cantu and Carlos Castellanos
Baldo is our first comic strip that features Latino characters and themes. Writer Hector Cantú and artist Carlos Castellanos have given us a new comic strip whose warmth and gentle humor will appeal to all.
Hmm...
I guess I don't get "minority-targeted" humor.

Dude, what comic strip has never used what you have just mentioned as their primary vice?

You have to keep in mind that the "hispanic"world is a fairly diverse and complex universe on its own. Most Americans tend to think that we hispanics speak the same language, eat the same foods and have the same sense of humor"and are the same race. Nothing could be father from the truth. What is funny to a Mexican, could be offensive to an Argentinian. Colombians speak Spanish with virtually no accent, while Cubans, Chileans, Venezuelans, etc all have a specific accent built into the language and the phonetics.
The point that I am making here, is that I personally don't find this comic strip funny, because I do not relate to or understand the whole chicano-Mexican-raza thing. So if this cartoon was aimed at "latinos"it went right over my head
Latinos themselves oversimplify themselves in the eyes of Anglo Americans way too much in this country. Hispanics are not made up of a single race, because hispanic is not a race
I say leave the cartoonist alone
Also you have to remember that the MINI is pretty much the anti-thesis of the "street/urban/gold chain set"When was the last time you saw a MINI riding on 22"wheels blasting ghetto music?
At MOTD... our community does have a few... ahem "out there" MINIs. One in particular developed a very bad reputation for blatantly crossing the yellow line on the Dragon in order to pass. Very stupid and very dangerous. He had a LOT of us so mad at him, that we're hoping he doesn't come back this year.
Just to use his MINI as an example, here's a photo of it (from his NAM gallery)... he doesn't come on here very often (hasn't been online since last May, after MOTD):

Ditto.
Maybe the two cartoonists come from macho, or perhaps homo-phobe backgrounds and who knows, maybe their editors actually find "warmth and gentle humor" in this.

Great strips!

I'm having a lot of trouble getting upset about this. So he made a lame and unfunny joke about my car and me. Boo hoo. In the time it took me to type this another 50 people were killed in Darfur. Let's focus on the big rocks, fellows.
What does Darfur have to do with this discussion? Are we not allowed to talk about something that doesn't involve people getting killed? You have 450 posts; how many people died during the time you were wasting making those posts?
"What the f*@% does ANYTHING have to do with Vietnam, man?!"
