Radio stuck in PHONE mode

Hello everyone. I recently purchased a 2006 R50. At the time the radio was working well, AM/FM/CD/AUX. This is the radio below the speedo, above the heater controls, not the style built into the speedo head. On the weekend I installed a Bluetooth plug and play adaptor into the back of the radio and could then play music from my phone in the AUX setting. However several days later the radio screen defaulted to “PHONE” on the screen and I cannot change it. So I cannot access radio or AUX or CD. Initially I thought the Bluetooth adaptor could have failed or malfunctioned so I removed it, no change. I have tried the buttons on the left side of the steering wheel, removed and cleaned the same buttons, held the radio power button down, disconnected the battery, pulled the fuse in the back of the radio, removed the Bluetooth option from my phone all to no avail. Does anyone have ideas on this? It was working fine one day and the next PHONE.

I would swap out the head unit with a used one and see what happens. You can get them used pretty cheap.

I was thinking this, would there be any programming to integrate a used radio? I know on my last R55 this was required.

Not much, those head units or more simple. Thats a 2007-2008 design on the R52 convertible. Its the same thing as 2002-2006 MINIs. They just updated the face design.

Thank you. I’ve had this unit out a couple of times. The re and re should be simple but I was just concerned about programming.
