Remote Starters - What possible problems?

I badly want to get a remote starter for my (Gen3) F57 JCW.

The ones I can find are the Eurostart BRS5, and the Viper. There are authorized intsaller near me for both.

I'm willing to spend that much, but I've also read a few warnings on various threads about how these systems can cause issues with the rest of the Mini's functions. - But no details to be found, and no idea if this pertains to the surrent systems or to older ones.

Does anyone know?
Anyone currently using such a system, without any problems?

Well, I found one post last night that said a BMW with a remote caught fire.

- But only one report, and not really confirmed, and no mention of which remote system it was.

It sounds like bunk / urban legend to me. Still, that's scary.

I'm a professional Installer with 30 years experience, and I would recommend the Eurostart kit. I've installed several on BMWs with zero issues. My shop is also a Viper dealer and that is what we mainly use, but for newer BMW/Mini, I feel like Eurostart is the way to go. The installation is tedious, requiring the Installer to de-pin/re-pin wires at the BCM, (not sure why they don't just make a T harness) so definitely look for someone who has done these before. The only drawback is that you need to give up one of your keyfobs to install inside the remote start module for security transponder bypass.

Thanks, wKndracr.

Man, it's expensive, esp as you have to buy a new fob from the Mini dealer, but I did find a local installer who's done it a lot, so that's what I'll get.

One really nice thing about the Eurostart, as the installer told me, is that it will "remember" if you had your heated seats on the last time your turned off your engine, and put them on again at start-up.
Pretty slick.

Sadly, it can't do the same for the heated steering wheel, for some reason, but that heats up quickly so no big deal there.
(I don't know why Mini didn't make iot so the wheel heater turns on automatically when the seat heater is engaged. Go figure....)
