Foxwell 510 Elite = BMW/Mini specific?

Looking to upgrade my Creator 110c + OBDII scanner with better brand.
Is the Foxwell NT510 Elite still a good choice for the, (money/under $175), (R53) Mini?
If so; I'm also trying to figure out if the Foxwell NT510 Elite is BMW specific. If the description does not mention BMW?
I think, I understand there is a newer model(?), Foxwell NT 630...Although now I'm a bit confused since not all listings state BMW/MINI.
I am not a mechanic. I'm just looking for something quality, reasonably priced, that will serve me well with diagnosing/monitoring/clearing codes.

Thanks.

510 is an older model and must be 'loaded' with the BMW/MINI specific stuff (as also applies to some other makes ... you can load more than one 'pak' and support other brands .. each pak costs $)

The current 600 series includes all these 'paks' in the basic product ........ in either case what they may charge in the future to support NEW is ??????

I bought the Foxwell NT510 preloaded with BMW software last year ($143.20+ tax Nov 2021),which seems to work well enough for the price plus being a corded unit. BMW All Systems All Maintenance Service Scanner FOXWELL NT510 Elite Automotive Obd2 Code Reader

Price has gone up since then as seems typical few fewer discount deals to be had these days. I also bought an OBDLink MX+ OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner for iPhone, Android, and Windows ($139.95+tax this April), which I'm using in combo with my smallest Nexus 7 Android tablet for PID displays, however it can also be used in the same way as the Foxwell to identify and clear fault codes. I do prefer the BT feature to be able to drive without being tethered "umbilical cord" style, however keep the Foxwell in the boot as a backup tool...

@Capt bj - Thanks. I've almost forgotten about that = update vs preloaded files. Hence the description and price differences.
@MCS4FUN Thanks. I think I remembered reading one of your posts a while back re:Foxwell 510 when you initially purchased/scanned your Mini.

I appreciate the clarification and detailed info.

I received my Foxwell NT510 Elite today. New in box $129 + free shipping.
This afternoon, I was able to clear several persistent faults on my R53, that would not clear with my Creator C110+ BMW OBDII:
  • 5E40_Steering Angle Implausible
  • 5E5C_ Initialize Run Flat Indicator (I don't have RF)
  • 5E19_ CAN data fault from DME/DDE (DSC lamp on...) Never any SES or fault lights lit on the tach or speedo
  • 5E18_ CAN data fault from DME/DDE
  • 5E14_ CAN connection to DME/DDE (DSC lamp on until ignition reset) Again, Never any SES or fault lights lit
I spent a fair amount of time going through various features and diagnostics on the Mini. I like the Foxwell very much. I'll do another scan in a couple of days to confirm that the faults actually stay/are cleared.

Thanks again!

Granted; there are obviously more sophisticated OBDII readers out there, but for the money and my immediate needs; the Foxwell beats all others I've had. Hands down! I've driven over 400 mi since I last cleared the aforementioned faults with the Foxwell. I am pleased to say - None have come back!

Is the Foxwell 510 Elite tailored exclusively for BMW/Mini vehicles? I'm intrigued to know if this diagnostic tool lives up to the brand-specific hype. 124.99 on ebay, or 169.99 on amazon right now. Think I will get the one off ebay, new free shipping.

I don't remember who the seller was - but yeah = great deal. $125 brand new in box + preloaded w/BMW/Mini software. I think I even saw ABS pump activation on this thing. Although I did not dare use the function (call me chicken/newbie) when flushing my brake/hydraulic system.
I just bled the heck out of it (2.5qts) 'til it flowed and looked like Evian.

I think you'll find that it will more than adequately fit your needs for both in-depth and basic trouble shooting.

Just purchased the NT510 off eBay thanks to the information in this thread. 124.99 plus tax. Hard to beat with free shipping as well.
