2013 Mini Countryman Cooper S all 4 - bluetoooth question

We just got one of these vehicles and we love it so far .

Do you have to have the aux cable plugged in for the bluetooth to work in a 2013 Mini Countryman?

I presumed I would see the phone option in the mode options but I do not see it.

Someone told me you could plug in lightning to aux cable and it would show up. I just picked up a regular aux to lightning cable from Walmart

I have tried iPhone 7 and 12.

Trying to work out if the Bluetooth is just now working or I am doing something wrong (probably)

Here is a link from Mini of Portland on pairing a 2013. My 2013 has the screen and I think I go to communication and the phone to pair.

Thank you. This is typically the videos I see but I do not see "Phone" show up in the mode options nor do I see anything in my Bluetooth options on my iPhone.
