Service records by VIN - how long retained in BMW database?
Service records by VIN - how long retained in BMW database?
Some might have seen my thread in the 1st gen subforum on the 2006 MCS I purchased a month ago from the original owner with just 4k total miles at that time. Outlined in that is a partial list of extensive performance modification work done early in that same year 2006 by a BMW dealer with owner furnished aftermarket components. Printed records on all that had been misplaced by the seller, so I'm attempting to find out what specifically was done beyond obvious visible external changes.
My questions are, how far back did BMW/MINI dealers start keeping electronic records of service work by VIN and how long are those kept in a central North America database? And finally, can any authorized MINI dealer access and provide those to current owners? I've written the service manager with request for a report extract with link to mentioned forum thread for context. No reply after the 2nd day, so just now sent a polite followup request.
TIA...

Well, 24+ hrs and 200 views later, no responses nor answers. Seems folks are as clueless as me which perhaps suggests the conundrum; "What's the Difference between Ignorance and Apathy?" Don't get it? Click here.
In any case, I did hear back from the mentioned BMW service manager whom indicated no record of my car's VIN in their database. My suspicion is with the car essentially new with full factory warranty at that time, the original owner requested the extensive performance work not be entered in BMW's database to not void that warranty. If so, logical in retrospect.

I was told no one could have the records unless they were the person that was on the records. I would really like to have the records for my 2018 Cooper S, but all they would have been was two oil changes from the selling dealer according to the Carfax.
^^^ Understood regarding hard copy receipts which usually show private details, including name, address and phone number. I requested prior service records from the selling (CPO) dealer on my former 2013 R56 which they denied. Ironically, all original receipts were stuffed in the driver seat map pocket and overlooked when prepping the (leased) vehicle for sale. Regardless, an itemized file report extract of service work showing date, mileage and specific work done need not include those private details (much like shown on CarFax reports).
