Service history problem with MINI dealer.

I just got off the phone with Mini of Ontario (CA) and the women in the service dept said she could not give me the service history of the car if I was not the owner at the time of those services. The car was mainly serviced at Crevier Mini. Are they just being lazy or should I call Crevier?

Thanks in Advance!

You can call MINIUSA's c/s and give them your VIN# so they can update the records. This might sound shady as anyone can call in their VIN but I am sure they have a way of authenticating the caller. Hope this makes sense and helps!

Yeah Crevier said for "liability" reasons they cannot give out the maintenance history, but that the original owner can still go in and get it. I suppose I understand that. I will give MINI a call. thanks!

My mini dealer was able to print out the history of the car, and then cut off the original owners name. I was very happy with this compromise, because it kept the identity of the original owner in tact, and told me a bunch about the car that I just bought. I showed them the registration in my name as proof of ownership. They did the same thing for the build sheet for me.

Maybe there is a solution like this for your car?

Have fun,
Mike

Yep, this question pops up on NAM from time to time. My dealer was also shy about giving me the service history on my mini. The SA did look it up online and let me look at the screen. Got the info I wanted..

It's up to the dealer as to their policy. Sounds like your dealer mad a nice compromise in supplying you with the service records but removing the original owners name. It's great to have service records so you have the history of your car.

Same here, once I showed the registration was in my name my local Mini dealer provided a printout. I think it's ridiculous for any dealer to not give you the service history because you can always black out the original owners name unless their trying to hide something.

I've bought two Mini's used and never ran into this problem. The SA popped the Key Fob into the reader and told me everything that had been done to both cars.
The printout didn't have any person's name on it, just the date, type of service/repair and where it was done.
It could be that individual states have different personal privacy laws that might restrict their ability to provide this service.

How can the previous owner's privacy be violated when there's no names and addresses on that printout sheet? I think either some people are ignorant or just plain stupid when it comes to these printout sheets, the buyer should also have the rights to see previous work performed on a car about to be purchased, full disclosure is also a law. Same thing when you buy a house, full disclosure of any unexpected bomb damage (Lethal Weapon 3), sewage spills and fire damage to name a few.
