Extremely disappointed in 2017 Mini Countryman S

I purchased a CPO 2017 Mini Countryman S from Marin Mini in August 2020. I recently took the car to Marin Mini to have the oil changed, since the message was appearing in the display panel that a service was due.

I was then informed by the dealer that my upper and lower engine mounts need to be replaced, at a cost of $1,663, and this is NOT covered by the CPO warranty.

Seriously?? I have owned the car for 10 months. I've only driven on paved roads, no dirt roads, nothing. I have put about 10,000 miles on the car in those 10 months.

Is this common?

Sounds strange. You should get a second opinion. Guessing the car did not come with any warranty. Maybe the previous owner was hard on it?

I'd ask them why their 100-point pre-sale inspection and certification somehow managed to overlook such an expensive repair. WHY would your warranty not cover this?

jcolletteiii makes a good point. How did they miss this just 10 months ago? How many miles are on the car? It’s difficult to believe that a 4 year old car needs new engine mounts. Ask them to explain the specific symptoms the car is exhibiting and why mounts would wear out so quickly.

This is is the way dealers operate now. Last time I had my wife's car at a dealer (for a recall), the service writer came out with the list of items the car needed. Every one of them was something I’d done within the previous year. None were close to being due again.

Below is a link to MINI's CPO Checklist. On Page 2, "Major Component Mounts" is the only line item that I found that appeared to reference Engine Mounts.

I purchased a CPO 2017 Clubman S ALL 4 with 39000 miles in Jan 2020. Diving home the ABS light came on, took it to the dealer and found out that during the brake inspection the detected a bad speed sensor in one of the rear wheels removed it and "forgot" to replace it. In June of 2020 the AC stopped working, they did a leak test recharged the system and all was good. Jan 2021 I had the 50000 mile service performed and they told me that I needed both engine mounts $1600+, I refused the service. This week my AC stopped working again so back to the dealer. AC hose is leaking and not covered by the warrantee. I was also told that I need new brakes (was told they were new in Jan 2020) and the rear flex disc (drive line part) replaced for $3200. Why would they even look at these if the car is in for AC? I refused all but the AC work and will fix the other issues myself. This does not bode well for my trust in MINI vehicles or service departments.

Don't be disappointed in the car, be suspicious of the dealership. Two things. One, check with other MINI people in the S. F. area and take it to a top rated independent for regular service. Two, don't trust those electronic sensors which could fail at any time. When the last four numbers on the odometer reads a 5 and three zeros or 4 zeros, get the oil changed and rotate the tires.

These are great suggestions, thanks so much for the responses!

My instinct tells me these motor mounts were damaged when they sold me the CPO car - I've never had damaged motor mounts in my 45+ years of owing cars, and there is just no way they all went bad 10 months after I purchased this CPO car. Granted, I've put 10,000 miles on the car in 10 months, but all my driving is on paved roads, never on dirt roads or off-road, and I treat my cars gently - I always follow all the suggested maintenance schedules, yada yada yada, because I like to keep my cars in the best condition possible.

I will definitely follow up on some of these suggestions.
