Build or Swap?
Build or Swap?
Hello everyone, I hope all is going well. I just recently purchased a 2002 R50 to restore and turn into my next project. I have a pretty good idea where I want to take it with suspension, paint, aero, brakes, etc. One thing I just can't really decide on is do I build a Mini motor or swap it? I would like to have around 380-400 horsepower with turbo and was wondering while I know it's achievable with a Mini which motor would make the best candidate to start with that will bolt in? Is it such a pain I should look into swapping in a K20 and turboing it? I know the K20 is a real pain, but I would be willing to do it if that was a more economical way (yeah right!). I have plenty experience building vehicles and taking on these tasks, but figured I would, ask and get information from those who have actually done it. The car currently has 239,941 miles and runs great so I have time to build a motor and setup. Well thank you for taking the time to read my post and please let me know your thoughts.
So, I was able to talk a few people locally and also researched more online and building a Mini motor is going to be the way I go. I will also be starting with a N18 motor so if anyone has one laying around with a 6 speed transmission please let me know.
