Help I need your advice
Is it a CVT or 5 speed, and how many miles are on the car? Also, how much do you like the car and what’s the condition of the rest of it?
Car value is often brought up when putting more money into a car than it’s worth, but worth can be subjective. You can easily lose the value of the repair from depreciation of a new(er) car in a year or two, and while driving something you don’t like as much. Plus you would probably be putting out a lot more cash to buy the new car or taking out a loan.
If you love your car and it’s in good condition I would probably fix it, or if you’re not attached to your particular car, you can also look for a replacement MINI but then the car and history would be unknown.

Thanks
My Mini has 105500 miles. I do like it and have enjoyed the rally’s and get togethers with other Mini owners here in Alaska.

That price tag was from the dealership, parts and labor. Still too much. I could order a replacement, but would need someone to install it and make sure it is properly programmed.

I agree with cooper48. What's "The rest of the story"? There are plenty of "part-out cars" here or on the internet with decent, used transmisssions that could be shipped to you. Do you have a competent mechanic who could do the install for you? Or there are instructions on-line so that you and/or a friend could swap it out.
