Sirrius/xm

So the dealership says it comes "sirrius/xm preparation ready" whatever that means and could install it for an additional 600. Question is if it's prepped ready can I do it myself and what does it entail?

Hello,
What MINI model. Most they add a box (on older MINIs) or just flash it for that amount. Its a flash with I think 1 year or service or something. I have not see anyone flash it themselves factory..

It's a 2020 4 door Oxford Edition. Haven't picked it up just yet. Flash it? Box? What?

They just flash those I believe which is you go to the dealer and they hook up your MINI and turn on the Sirius/XM with a code they get internally. That's all. You get 1 year of service also.

^this. The hardware is already there, just needs to enabled. What a rip off huh? To top it off, sirius sound is horrible compared to FM.

The $600.00 charge is for the Sirius satellite receiver to be enabled. Sirius then offers usually 6 months free service, from date of sale. The dealer will set that up, if you pay the extra $600.00 to have it.

Not entirely sure about ur specific Mini, but I had this on a Mustang I bought new in ‘14. It was also $600 to install. I asked the tech this question and he told/showed me that he had to install a “kit” which was basically an antennae. The head unit was already “sat ready” as urs is. The kit did have some other wiring, but forgot what it was. I asked if I can buy the kit and save some money. He told me that it would still need a flash, so I would only be saving a hundred bux or so. And if they did it, it was covered under the full factory warranty.
Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone! It is crazy that Mini does that. It came with our Honda and it seems to come with just about every vehicle out there WITHOUT the 600$ charge.
