Mini Sales

Why doesn't Mini negotiate on their cars? Are they still in that high of demand? I can hardly get them to come down $1k on a car I want to order. And that's several different dealers.

Thanks

Lots of good info here https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-the-deal.html

The demand now is pretty anemic. They probably want you to buy one off the lot, so do some comparing to see how that deal would work. Where are you located? One of our members is a MA, maybe he can help you if you are near NJ.

My dealer tried the whole I wont work with you thing recently. I got another dealer involved and suddenly they wanted to keep me was a customer. I got about 3k in money back($2100 in lease payments still owed and another $1000 on my ordered car) on my deal( a lease) but I have excellent credit(not saying you don't) so that might have been a factor. I have also bought 2 other Mini's (one from each of the dealers in question). I was also willing to give either dealer 1k cash as an order deposit( fully refundable with either). You have to go in knowing their games and the numbers on things. Once I let them both know I was checking ALL their numbers with the various lease calculators and that I wouldn't accept any offer that was bad they both started to work with me. You also have to let them know you are a serious buyer and not just out kicking tires.

I used the internet and checked every dealer within 300mi. I found a dealer about 200mi away (in Baton Rouge) that seriously undercut my local dealer by about $2000. When I showed the offer to them, they matched the price. This was a special order car and they gave me about 10% below MSRP (no trade involved).

Trade-in

I was wondering if the trade-in was causing negotiating issues.
I did try to contact 4 dealers in different areas. I think one of the mistakes I made was sending out the printout of the Mini I built and was ready to order but I sent it saying I wanted to get it for $32k and it was $40k built. Ok - so I was dreaming. I thought it would be a good starting point.
I guess the surprising part is that they aren't even interested in negotiating and I already have financing... I have to keep e-mailing them otherwise, I wouldn't hear from any of them.
thanks for everyone's input.

I am not surprised they aren’t working with you. They don’t think you are serious. Asking for almost 25% off is a bit much. I would wait a couple weeks maybe and then reach out again. Also instead of email going to talk to them in person might help.

Probably best to use an alias next time so they don't do an eye roll.

A 20% discount as a starting point, OK.

Look for discounts and deals per dealership, each dealership does their own thing and sometimes have last year models at a discount. Goodluck.

Scion tried that "The one easy price, you don't have to negotiate!" thing.

Worked out well for them.

Would you guys consider getting 3k off a 48k 2018 CM JCW a "deal"?

At first, I was patting myself on the back for getting it to that point considering when I bought my first MCS back in '08 I got $500 off (nobody was willing to budge and finally found 1 dealer willing to take a small cut).

They all tell me the same thing that typically JCWs are MSRP but to win my biz they'll give me this price.

I think you can and should do better. MINI sales are down, the industry as a whole is hurting a bit. A $48K JCW has a lot of extra profitable options and I think you can do better. Shop around if you can, other dealers would probably be thrilled to sell you one for $5K off that car.

When did MINIs become $50,000 cars?

You could probably get a C7 off the lot for $48,000 after some negotiating.

If a salesman ever said he was doing something to win my business I would be leaving.

Yeah... used, with some miles on it you might get one for 48K. Those start at 55k with ZERO options. JCWs at 48k are nicely equipped. You’re comparing apples to oranges here.

It's probably a stretch, you are right. The idea that a MINI and a Corvette are only $7,000 apart in MSRP is... weird.

450 horsepower is about the only option you need.

I can’t argue with that, but I am getting to a place in my life where I like my creature comforts. Heated seats are a beautiful thing when you get up in the morning and outside, it’s 10 below.

Sales data is now reported by BMWNA on a QUARTERLY basis. Next report will be early April for the first 3 months of 2020.

I shopped around, pitted a few dealers against each other and viola! Got a good deal on a new one and we're not complaining at all. One dealer was way too high priced, another was very lackidasical in their customer service so it came down to two dealers. New 2020 ended up being cheaper than a used 2019.

Congratulations! How about sharing who you bought from and some details to help others out?

Sure! Mini of Hartford CT is where we finally settled. Mini of Warwick RI was very high priced and Mini of Boston's customer service was... Just... Not.... There... Very lackidasical, slow to respond or just no response.
We dealt with Corrine at Mini of Hartford, even on her days off she was answering our questions and guiding us. Even when the dealership was closed she was helping us out. She went above and beyond what she had to do. We got the Oxford edition discount which is only supposed to be for military and students.... I'm not either so not sure how they pulled it off, I'm not asking questions at this point.

Thanks. Too far for me now, although I did attend Camp UHA back in the day. Here in Portland we have only one dealer unless we want to drive 3.5 hours. Cuts down on the negotiations a bit.

Oh yeah Corrine also threw in a set of all weather Mini mats, so definitely no complaints there
