GP2 Pricing

Lots of sellers price high and wait until nothing happens and then start slowly dropping price. I looked at one 2 years ago when it was $30K at a dealer. I watched, waited and decided it wasn't for me. Last price I saw was $24K which I assume it went for about that price unless they wholesaled it out.
The value is really what you or someone else wants to pay. (bad answer I know)

Hey missingcodec,
Sorry I'm late to the party. I like to use the auction site Bring a Trailer as an evaluation of rare or weird cars. KBB and Edmunds values tend to only look at the value of the vehicle, excluding things like potential collector status or limited editions. So even listings at a fair price will look inflated compared to a book value.
Quick browse the BaT listings for MINIs and click on every GP2, between the various mileage and condition auctions you can get a decent idea of what your local GP2 should be valued at.
At a glance GP2s look like a decent value right now. I would be a liar if I said I hadn't considered picking one up myself. The trend is around $22k-$24k for well presented examples. A 2500 mile example barely broke $25k last year and the 14 mile bubble car only commanded $36k.
An automatic-only GP3 might even drive prices up a bit.

Also keep in mind that regular auto insurance will not cover the GP2 for it's collector value. If you have a lost, it will most likely pay a lot less than it's worth. You should look into collector car insurance if the GP2 you are buying is not going to be a daily driver. Insure it for an agreed value. It should also be much cheaper.
