I actually saw another R53 a couple days ago and waved at him, but he had the zombie stare. Glad to hear that there are other owners waving (confirmation bias on a enthusiasts website, though) and I will continue to wave and hopefully receive one in return!

My experience is 50/50, I will get some waves back and others not. There are times when I encounter another MINI and do not wave out of sheer laziness or something of that nature, but usually I will try to. #savethewave!

I always wave, but it's only reciprocated around 15% of the time it seems.

The first time I got a wave from another motorer who initiated it, a cute girl in an R50, I was totally stoked.

It reminds me of my old Saab days back when more of them were on the road, we'd blink our lights at each other --- it was known as Saablinking!

But I’m in my winter vehicle right now, red 4Runner, feel free to wave back, don’t be scaredy-cat. Lol

On my way into work this morning (Vancouver BC, Canada) as I was crossing an intersection, the driver of a MINI going the opposite direction waved at me just as I was shifting gears. I gave him a nod, but was really surprised he waved. I would have waved if my other hand was free.

I got one 3 month of waiving and finally an older guy ( gray hair) waived. Was so excited I almost crashed. Maybe that's why no one waives anymore?

I wave all the time. There was this really hot girl walking down the street, great body proportions, and of course, I waved. I will get my MINI back from the body shop just as soon as the front end damage is fixed.

Unfortunately I don't see too many MINI's driver wave anymore. Specially with the newer models. Gen 1 and early get 2s seem more susceptible to "the wave". It's getting to the point where I feel kind of dumb for waving with no wave back. So i don't wave much either anmore.

I will get to the waving in a minute but talking about incline, I live at the foothills of Lincoln National Forest and #82 is 21 miles to the top of the mountain village called Cloudcroft from Alamogordo [NM]. On my descent coming back or for that matter any downhill I never use my brakes. Same on a motorcycle, only engine brake and I start counting how many times the car/truck in front of me uses theirs. It is generally over 100! No wonder my brakes last for so long... It is a crazy fact.

Waving I feel has become a thing of the past. People do wave in rural areas such as for example in Big Bend, Texas, where my Dog Spirit and I had a winter base camp with the nearest neighbor about five miles away. It is just a "thing" locals do regardless of what one drives. We always knew the tourists as they would not wave! And also from their cars which were too clean... Living on sailboats for 28+ years we always waved at each other while in and out of Marinas. Riding motorcycles waving is also becoming a thing of the past especially BMWs [which is what I rode!] and that would really **** me off while I mumbled "snob...". The ones that waved were always Harley riders and actually the nicest people we encountered when living on the road camping full time for 14 years.
It seems that "brands" are clickish. A Ducati rider will only wave at another Ducati rider [if...] for example. Cars are kind of the same as yes, it has mostly become a thing of the past while the drivers in general have no clue what is going on around them submerged by the "boum boum bam" of their speakers most likely loosening up all their vehicle's nuts and bolts!

But... Oh! well... It is what it is...

I've only had 1 Mini person wave at me. I generally get very excited when I see another and wave frantically like an idiot. So maybe I just scare them? People are just a-holes these days and can't be bothered with being courteous to one another. It makes me sad.

There is a gray R55 MINI Clubman in my neighborhood, I have been waving at it for years, with no response. Just a couple of months ago they started waving back. I guess it pays to be persistent.

I had a new 2003 MCS and everyone waved back then. They have changed a lot as a company too. They are no longer a niche car. I still think the 2011-2017 Countrymans are a niche car but other than that, the "man" has gotten a hold on MINI and they are pretty basic. The new Countryman is like driving a Forester or something. It is boring inside and out. That's my opinion anyways. Could just be where you live as well. NJ isn't exactly known for its friendly drivers.

I think a lot of people are just zoned out when they're driving and don't see anything. I wave to my neighbors when I see them driving (not MINI drivers) and they never even notice me. It's too bad.
I always two-finger-thumb-on-wheel wave!

I’ve been a MINI lessee since 2013 (2013 chili red hardtop, then a 2016 volcanic orange hardtop), and just bought a mythical ClubVan for keeps.
I will always wave, often overly enthusiastically. If local folks don’t wave back, they’ll soon realize that they should, because that wacky MINI lady won’t stop until they at least nod back 😆

A friend just bought a 2014 Countryman (her first MINI), and loves it to pieces. No one told her to wave, there was no documentation saying so in the glovebox, no rally-inspired tongue-in-cheek welcome packet. I feel like the less we see the checkerboard and Union Jack, the less camaraderie we see in new drivers. BMW Group seems to want to suck in the luxury folks, and they’re not big on waving, are they?

*shrug* I’ll take the waves that I get, and remain excited when I can be!

This thread has completely redoubled my efforts to wave at every Mini I see on the road. The only problem now is that there are a ton of them in my area, and I get so sucked up in driving like a maniac and hearing that supercharger sound, that I don't quite get the the hand up in time every time I pass one. Oh well, I'll learn. Keep on waving, guys and gals!

MINIS are rare around here [Alamogordo, New Mexico] while being more common in the bigger cities such as Santa Fe, Albuquerque and El.Paso. Still, there are a few and the waves are not so common. I did get a wave yesterday going up #82 to Cloudcroft where are often drive #244 to Ruidoso, 30 miles of heavenly road with no cops ever in sight. Hitting 100 in the 45 zones is a common occurrence... If you don't see my posts for a while it will mean I am in jail... I actually have deposited some money in some Friend's account for bail just in case!!!
It was a cream color Mini with red stripes on the hood...

We find that Gen1 and Gen2 Coopers/Cooper S wave almost all the time, Newer Countrymans not so much and when in Our Counrtyman seems like never.
As a side note I still love seeing how our Gen 1 Cooper just makes people smile when they see it.
Cheers

I had a 2005 MCS back in '07 and I remember a lot of other Mini drivers waiving back then or at least nodding.

I recently got an r56, less than a month ago but I don't get as many waves as before. Guess the drivers are a little shy now. Regardless I am still dishing out the Mini waves every chance I get.

I just got my new mini last Thursday and was side by side with a mini countrymand and waved but she just looked at me like I was a crazy person. Oh well I will continue to wave to fellow mini drivers, hopefully somebody will return the wave. The mini wave is also on the Mini website so I am surprised more people do not wave! It adds a little more fun while driving in my opinion.

Got a wave tonight from a young lady in a new 2 door (don't know what the new ones are called).

Keep waving folks!
