Yep, since it will mostly share the bumper as the Cooper , S might fit as well as the JCW bumper, I bet all the aftermarket ones we sell will fit. You will have to make small holes for the PDC in the front. Looks like it has the same small vent in the bottom for a rad. or venting for the electromagnet.

Bet the JCW bumper might fit also, But then you would have to mod for the duct work, I will send it to my guys in Japan that does body kits, I think they are working on some cool things as we speak.

You guys would be one of the best to know, but from the corporate and engineers I've spoken with - they may not share the same bumper. Time will tell when the parts list becomes available though.

Maybe not a pipe dream. The Mini-E is built from the BMW i3 parts, and the i3 has a range extender option. It’s a gas powered engine which can generate enough electricity to give you extra range in an emergency.

Just got my copy of the “ROUNDEL” magazine of BMWCCA. It has several articles on the subject of e-cars, one of which is a commentary of a press release for the MINI SE. The press release featured a 9+ hr trip they took, which took 4 days. Needless to say the article was not complimentary about this given the short range of the MINI SE and the lack of charging stations along the way. The article does make the point, several times, that this is a “city” car, not a long range Tesla. So it seems, that MINI is sending mixed signals about the MINI SE, and I have an uneasy feeling that they will be pushing people away or giving people the wrong impression about the SE by doing this sort of thing. I have been following the MINI GP 3 and they have been yanking people’s chain on that car too. They definitely could do better with their marketing of their cars...

Another article in the ROUNDEL is about BMW battery development. One note is they are on their fifth generation battery on BMW’s latest cars. The battery module (cell group packages which make up a car “battery”) looks to be about 1/2 the size than previous models and the new batteries are designed for a 10 yr life, then they are “repurposed”. If the MINI SE had those, MINI could have about double its range. Could MINI have used these? Would have been nice... Just sayin’.... They are also making an iX3, which is AWD. Could an AWD MINI SE be in the works? Tis to dream.

In the MINI SE article they said 30,000 people have lined-up to get one. GO YOU! It will be interesting to hear their impressions of the car.

We have a deposit down and test drove one today (fully optioned Iconic like the press cars). Overall pretty impressed with the way it drove in sport mode. Given it would be a 3rd car and our first electric, it seems like it could work out well for us.

It will be very interesting to monitor the depreciation curve on pre-owned hi-end electrics like this.

hi end? It’s one of the cheapest. At least, in the US, it’s $30,000 plus a $7,500 tax credit, so it’s $22,500. In my state, we get another $2,000 or $2,500 credit, so it’s a $20,000 car, and a cute Mini Cooper at that — much nicer looking, I’d say, than any electric besides Tesla, which costs far more.

Put another way: After the tax credits, I believe it’s the least expensive Mini Cooper there is.

Oh god. You don't want to take depreciation into any account on a purchase of ANY EV outside of Tesla (in some respects, Tesla's actually get better with age). EV's are electrical appliances. The used value is appalling, and if you have to ask - you don't want to know. Think of it this way, when you bought your last cell phone... did you buy a used one? EV's are technical "of-the-day" pieces. Four years out, the battery tech and software has changed so much. In addition the SE is built from 2017's parts bin... all the way to 2023. So the day it arrives, it's no better than a 2017 i3s. The SE is considered a "First Generation of modern electric vehicles". When it came out, the Model 3 Tesla is the first of the second generation.

Does that really matter? Depends on the owner. Leasing EV's is ideal - that way the problem becomes someone else's.

After driving one, I'm very happy to own one as it will be the 6th car in my fleet. It will get daily commuting duties and be driven into the ground. MINI is not offering leasing options for me at this point.

Hi! I found this forum and placed a deposit down for a Mini Cooper SE! I'm pretty excited as this will replace my BMW 320i as my city car. (I still have an M2 for mountain fun..)

Coming from the BMW world, there's always ordering/pricing guides floating around. Does anyone know if there is one for the Mini Cooper SE yet? I personally would love to get the Signature Plus package but I hate the sunroof so I was wondering if it's possible to add ZMR option to the build list.

super cool. Welcome aboard.
join my Facebook group, we have some of the items posted - but the USA configuration site may not be up. You may have to look at the Canadian first edition page.

as for sunroof delete, you may be able to with a custom order, but the 2020 m/y wasn’t. The new orders will be 2021 m/y as of end of February 2020 production date (same car though)

I test drove one today. It’s a very fun electric car! A lot more appealing than any other electric car I’ve seen, besides Tesla — but I could buy at least two of these for the price of a Tesla. Here in Oregon, there’s a $7,500 Federal tax rebate and a $2,500 Oregon rebate, so the car’s only about $20,000. Excellent deal!

I received an e-mail about a debut at my local MINI dealership. I'd check it out, but I'm sure if I go there, they'd try to get me to buy it. And I just bought my MINI last August!

My MINI dealer is pretty low key. Their pressure has been to ask me when my wife is going to trade in her ‘04 MINI. My response is always that she loves the car, that’s why she bought it. Maybe never... If I get a chance to see a SE, I’ll do it.

For anyone interested this is a really good review of the MINI SE:

Note that he says that it has a 50/50 weight distribution. I can see these showing up on the autocross courses in the near future...

I would be game to buy a retrofit kit to electrify my Gen II.

There probably is a law against that though!

Finally got a chance to drive an SE. Fantastic car. We were really pleased with how normal it felt with the exception of the regenerative braking. Level 1 just feels like aggressive engine braking, level 2 feels like your passenger tossed an anchor out the window while you weren't watching. We didn't even remember to put it in sport mode. Perfect around town car.

My wife definitely wants one but it sounds like we won't be satisfied with the base. So we are looking at ~$36,000 for a car utilizing 2014 technology that we definitely don't need. Just doesn't feel like a good investment. No state incentives to help that $7,000 federal tax incentive and while we pay extra to run our house on wind energy most public charging would be fossil fuel derived.

But hey... car purchases are rarely logical, especially when it comes to MINIs. Factory is offline for now so we've got some time to think on it.

So...after a 4 year hiatus from Mini when I bought a Focus ST in between I placed my order yesterday for the SE. I’m pretty excited about it after reading through this thread. Less excited knowing that it’s months out - but that gives me some time to deliberate. Currently I’m torn between the base trim or signature plus here stateside. I’m not entirely sure I can justify $4,000 as I really only wanted the H/K stereo. I can live without the rest. Anyway, glad to be back! (sort of)

Agreed - heated seats are a must for me. Here in the States heated seats are standard, and really the only items I’m interested in for the Signature plus package are the moonroof (can live without) and the H/K. The rest would all just be a bonus. But, I’ve got some time to mull this over.

When I bought my MINI, the only thing that I wanted from the Signature package was the moonroof. I ended up getting a Signature package and I actually find the Comfort Access to be really nice. I dismissed it when they talked about it, but its really nice to never have to grab your key. I never use my heated seats, but my wife uses them all the time, so that's also a plus (for her).
