MINI pickup truck? Please.

I've had my R53 for 7 years and have hauled an astonishing amount of stuff in, on, and behind it but I am seriously missing my pickup truck as I get closer to finishing restoring my classic dirt bike and need a convenient way to haul it. I don't want a big *** truck but there are no small trucks anymore like the S10 or Ford Ranger so why doesn't MINI make one? The first Gen cars are really too small to use as a base for a viable pickup but some of the newer models would make a fine extended cab short bed pickup. I know the Subaru Baja was a similar idea and a miserable failure, but MINI owners are already into the odd and interesting and the designers could make a much nicer looking car than the Baja. Besides, the rumor mill says that GM is going to take a another shot at an El Camino soon so maybe the market is ready for more small car based pickups. What say you?

What about the Colorado or the Frontier (for a compact/ mid size pickup)?

I had an Chevy S10 for years but continually ran into situations where it was too small. I traded it for a Ford F350 pick up truck, I'd never go back to a small pick up.

I've been looking at the Colorado and like it although it is still a bit bigger than I would like. I drove an S10 for many years as a work truck then moved up to a 1500 Sierra that I had for over a decade. The S10 would be the perfect size for what I want to do - cozy interior, good gas mileage even with the best motor ever made the 4.3 litre six, decent towing capacity, and low enough to the ground to be a reasonable leap for my dogs. I just don't understand why even Japanese trucks have to get bigger and bigger. The new Colorado is bigger than my old Sierra which was a bear to park in town and had crappy gas mileage with the big V8. The original Ridgeline is tempting although the new one leaves me kind of cold.

If it can't hold a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood in the back then it isn't a pickup truck.

That ex-Red Bull Mini, I want to take the lid off the back and fill it with ice and be... uh, beverages. Tailgate party machine.

As long as you can carry a spare truck in the back of your mini pickup who needs a 4'x8' sheet of plywood?

No need ... that's how they were built! the two silver hatches you see lead to the big cooler that forms the 'bed'. They'd put two folks (usually female) in one of these and send them to events. Had one show up at an attempt to set most MiNi's on a ferry in years back .... the ladies handed out free Red Bull from their coolers filled from the car. Like an old 'ice cream truck' ... put some dry ice in the insulated box and your item to keep cold ....
