I have a 2013 mini cooper hardtop S that I bought new from Hendrix Mini Cooper in Charlotte NC. Due to some medical issues with a friend (terminal glioblastoma cancer of the brain) I have been putting some miles on it. Next September will be the end of the four year warranty but I won't make that as I am allready at 44,000. I got quoted $3340.00 for the seven year 100,000 mile warranty. Fair price?
Strictly mechanical. I have a very good mech. I can get a brake job every year and oil changes from him cheaper than thru mini so the maintenance warranty doesn't interest me at all. I have an automatic so the clutch thing isn't a worry for me either.
So this is the best price I have gotten. Most of the others are $3720.00. So first thing I will ask is if this is a BMW direct warranty or a third party warranty. Although this might sound stupid does that seven years start from when I purchase that warranty or from when I purchased the car (am I just purchasing another three years and 50K miles)?
Why don't you take ~$3500 and put it in an investment account. Then if you ever need it to fix the car, you have the $ set aside. If you don't need it, then at the end of the warranty period it is still yours, plus any accumulated return on the investment.
Extended warranties aren't sold because they are a good deal for the consumer. Sometimes they work out for people, but on average they are a money maker for the dealer / warranty company.
An extended warranty is like insurance. You should only buy insurance for the rare, catastrophic stuff you can't afford to deal with, like your house burning down or an accident where somebody sues you for $10M. If you can afford to pay for fixing the car out of pocket, or out of the $ you set aside for it, then don't buy the insurance.

"Extend your protection" is what the warranty does, so from four years that comes with the car to seven years, means you get three additional years. They make it unclear on purpose.

The warranty is not through MINI/BMW. Every dealership uses a different one i believe. But they choose a few companies you can pick. I may be wrong but can find out. With the way these cars are with dealership work done you will blow by that 3700 easy. Then again you have an n18 which have been pretty good. Just read the fine print so you know what it covers.

Heandrick Autoguard Platinum is a very good Extended Service Agreement. It is an exclusionary service agreement which means everything is covered excluding maintenance and cosmetic items. It is not taxed in NC either. It is a cut above most on the market.
I have the Hendrick Autoguard warranty as well. One step down from platinum, so Gold, I think? Has worked very nicely. I am good to 81k, looking to extend it as far as possible at that point. I think it was $2300.00 when I purchased it. I have had it cover all of that cost, maybe a bit more.
