Does Sport Mode decrease gas mileage?

And if so, by about what percentage? 2015 S Roadster.

Thanks!

It all depends on what your right foot is doing.

Yes it does. I don't know by how much as I never use it. I don't like wearing things out unnecessarily.

I'm fairly new to the car. It has about 3000 on it now, all my driving. Bought it new May 8th. I'm still trying to perfect my technique with the stick shift on that car. I've been driving standards for over 50 years, including trucks and buses as well as cars and motorcycles. Nothing wrong with my technique - clutches have always lasted me way longer than average.

In another thread I commented that starting the MINI from a stop really sucks, which it does. It was suggested that I leave it in Sport mode. I have tried that of course, and it helps a little, but I still wouldn't call it right.

Anyway, I'm kind of **** about mileage. We've had Prii for 10 years, and lately an electric BMW. So, while mid 30's may look good to some, it isn't that great from my perspective. I knew that I was going to give up some fuel economy when I got the car, of course - that's just part of the deal. But I want to get the best I can and still have fun.

Maybe the best strategy is to put it in Sport mode when I'm in traffic with a lot of starts, and take it out if I'm out in the country or on the highway.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. In the end I'll have to sort it out as best I can.

in a AUTO trans YES, because the shift points are moved up, more RPM= LESS MPG , in a manual it all depends on your shift point , so could be better or worse.

Same here, SM for in town, I turn it off on highway. Certainly seems to reduce MPG, but I don't track it very well as it takes the thrill out of driving the car. On the highway the JB+ kicks in to help.

I have driven a couple mini with n18 engines and the sport mode didnt change the shift point that much compare to my own n14. it still manage to shift itself at 2500rpm if the right foot is light enough, compare to at least 4000rpm in my n14. Keep sport mode on and a really light right foot, then u should be able to have a decent mpg with some pop and burble as a bonus

Was getting 24 ish in sport. 26 ish w/o sport. Also noticed an increase on the long trips but a lot less as it was mostly causing

Even if it does, (which I doubt), it wouldn't be enough to make me have to drive without sport mode on all the time. The N14 R56 (imo) is practically undrivable without it.

Mine in city drops 2 mph. No six gear, adjusts rev limiter and on mine atleast tightens the steering. Higher revs = more fuel consumption. Atleast for me.

Sport vs Normal Mode

I had an '08 manual S and left it in sport all the time because the car was so dead off the line in normal mode. My '12s (n18) had plenty of torque in normal and I hardly used sport mode. I tried a trip to Somona Co. in sport mode to compare and my fuel mileage dropped noticeably.
I never use sport in my '15S. No need.

Makes sense Sport mode won't let the car go into its tallest gear I have to believe would greatly effect mpg
