Forge BOV

Hello everyone, I recently bought and installed the Forge BOV kit from Forge Motorsport. I made a video too because the first thing I look for is what I'm getting into. In case you were thinking about getting one, maybe check out my video and see what it's all about.

happy motoring!

I was thinking hard about getting this and wasn't sure it was worth the money? You do seem to think there is improvement in throttle response? Love the video.

It sounds really good! I'm worried that the sound may get old after a while?

Are you just paying for the sound or is there actually a noticeable difference in low end?

Just get the recirc valve. FMDVR60R. That's what I did.

Why would you do one over the other, other than the sound? What comes on the car, recirc?

low end

When it comes to the low end torque, remember that it is still a 1.6. But with this kit, or the uprated recirculation valve (which are pretty much the same ) the boost builds noticeably faster. Also, I noticed that with the stock recirculation valve it plateaus for a bit when the engine catches up. But with this it keeps a steady boost increase through the rpm.

LOL!! True it is only a 1.6l. Either or looks like the ticket for turbo response. Thanks

Yes. Some had good look with the BOV and some do not. The recirc is less likely to cause any codes.

Does the recirc give you the woosh sound or just the steady turbo boost through the rpm's?

The recirc is actually in the turbo housing. I haven got a code yet and I drive a lot and I drive hard. Once you see where the air goes you'll see it doesn't really matter.

update

just wanted to give a little update about the Forge BOV for the R56

I have had this part on for about 2500 miles now, both city and freeway driving. I never knew how much the recirc valve opened until i could hear it. when I first put it on, it was a loud PPSSSSHHH every time the throttle plate closed. now that I am used to it, I can shift much smoother if I use my boost/vac gauge to try to make no noise. I have gotten complements from people asking me what Turbo I have, saying it sounds high performance because they dont expect it from a MINI. In tunnels it sounds glorious, when im passing other MINIs it really sets me apart. it is definitely a head turner

Since I put it in, I have been using the green spring, or the lighter spring. I am thinking that when I get the AEM intake I'll switch to the heavier spring to get a little bit of turbo flutter.

the real question: Am I still happy with this upgrade? Yes, I have grown to love this

but one thing i would like to mention, if Forge made a hybrid BOV... like one that only vent to atmosphere under high boost but otherwise recircs, I would change to that. in a heartbeat. i love that my boost is steady but would love a hybrid.

just wanted to give you all a quick update, recently I changed out the lighter spring in the Forge BOV for the heavier, 22 psi spring.... and it's... wow.

What I expected: a little bit of flutter, louder blow off.
What I got: Angry acceleration, little bit of pop&gurgle.

My 2010 MCS takes off like it's angry now. The turbo sound is like... make the "shh" sound with your mouth... but suck in as hard as you can. It pulls hard too. But I dont want to sound like a fanboy, I dont know if maybe the lighter spring was maybe starting to get worn in.... but it feels like a faster response. The boost shoots up to 10psi in sport mode a lot faster than before.

I hope that someone else who has purchased this tries the light spring for a bit and then switches to the heavy one to either confirm or bust this.

I now deem this purchase necessary for and R56 MCS/JCW owner. totally worth it.

Hmm interesting.. I'll have to try the other spring and see if there is a difference... I have the forge BOV with AEM ram intake combo..
