The OP posted for the first time this past February 4th in over 4 years.

And his issue is that his girlfriends 8 year old car has a timing chain problem; and suprise, suprise Mini won't do anything.

Kinda reminds me of those entitled youth during the 99% protests complaining they couldn't find a job to pay off their $100,000 student loan for an English degree. (Why did they spend so much money on a degree with no job potential? Oh wait, they feel entitled to live their "dream")

It's called life. It's an 8 year old car, move on.

Dumb. ^^^^

How do years cause a timing chain to break down?

I see many post based on hyperbole and strawman arguments.

Mini owners butthurt over the idea that Mini isn't the loving, cute, company they sold themselves as.

Moral: People who love products are sheep.

p.s. since people have decided to make the post personal. Fine I will unleash my ability to flame.

I just received the following PM from the OP.

Just in case there was any doubt about this guy.

I have no idea what implied warranty he is talking about.

Subject: Are you 12
It seems you don't understand what an Implied Warranty is.
Please go join a page where children post, you don't belong here.

LOL a troll that tries to flame by posting PERSONAL messages.

Go away. You are obviously a child or a dimwit.

p.s. You have no idea what Implies warranty is, but you decided to post in a thread about implied warranty. You fail at the internet.

Chill...
Folks that do let the oil level get low, or use the mini factory extended drain interval DO have lots of timing chain issues...
Don't make this personal...
We are not saying it is the drivers fault, but some basic knowledge can help save $$$.
The motor DOES have issues....
But after 8 years...can't a manufacture walk away?!
If a designer must back and support a product for life, an entire Industry would be bankrupt...
Lawyers sued most small airplane makes out of buissiness...
Often claimed a 50+ year old plane was defective...even if it only had 3000 hours...kinda like a 50,000 mile car...
Tort reform was needed to get plane makers to restart production... At one point about 60% of a small airplanes cost was liability...
Consider this...a small plane cost about the same as a new car till the late 1960's...
Then lawsuits started...
And now a copy of that same aircraft costs $175,000....same basic design....same basic technology, just fancier radio's and new interior...thank the lawyers.....
They get their cut....

There are several types of flaming. The type where people act superior and cast judgement on people. The type where a person responds with a clever retort.
And lastly the kind where people lose their mind and vomit on the keyboard.

I use the second type. However there have been a lot of people using the first type in this thread, and I have let a lot of comments pass.

It gets annoying, when people don't even try to understand the context, and reply with uninformed opinions.

These are people who cannot use reason to support their position, because they didn't use reason to form their opinion. They simply feel a certain way.

People defend Mini, because they bought it as a prestige item. However if they want it to continue to hold prestige, they have to hold Mini accountable for the defects they produce. Otherwise your prestige for a Mini will go the way of those who had pride in their Fiero.

.
The manufacturer cannot walk away from something they purposely concealed. If they had informed their customers, then they would not be liable for repair, but they didn't. Instead they made techs aware of the issue and even designed a new tensioner. Mini also reduced the intervals between changes.

Mini computer warns you of just about everything. But it never mentions the timing chain. This is because Mini had faith in it when it was first introduced.

In regard to tort reform. That would be catastrophic for the American consumer. America is not a free society. It is a plutocracy that reduces benefits to society in favor of the bottom line. America has little regulation, so the only thing that keeps amoral corporations honest, is the threat of getting sued.

You can argue the issue of valid and invalid claims, but that is a separate issue.

If you want to end lawsuits, enforce effective regulation, but you cannot have a society without any form of remedy for those who have suffered unfairly.
