Marketplace issues - How should this be handled?
A few weeks ago I sold an R56 boost tube for a JCW (part #:AMP-INT-435BK). I purchased it brand new from Out Motoring a few years ago and had it on my 2012 JCW for about 18 months. The buyer who purchased it stated he has a 2009 fJCW and so the transaction proceeded.
After I sold it I got a message from the buyer that it didn't fit. The entire conversation so far has been vague as to what's not fitting, for example he has said it is crooked and that the inlet won't slip on over the turbo enough, but when I asked for exact photos I got no response. As I recall I needed to grease the heck out of it when I installed the first time. He says he has a 2009 JCW. I am not sure if at some point the 2009 JCW inlet was sized differently (completely plausible in mid year).
At what point do you cut your losses and refund a person because they can't figure out how to install, or the product just doesn't fit? Is it even my responsibility?
Here is one of the photos sent to me. I see that the hose clamps are not installed correctly on either the silicone couplers. Could be part of the problem but when I pointed it out it was ignored.

IMO...
Once it is shipped, and the buyer has it...transaction is completed as long as item is as you described. As long as you did not guarantee it would fit...it is the buyers issue...they can resell it. You could be nice I guess, and take it back, but forums sales are not retail.....that is why stuff is cheap.....it is used stuff...and it is just like a swap meet or tag sale.... Cash and carry.

As long as you accurately described the item it is the buyers responsibility to verify compatibility.
It looks like there are other aftermarket parts which may or many not be affecting the fitment. In this case they should all work together since they are all Alta parts.
I just looked at the Alta instructions, as you pointed out it looks like it is installed incorrectly. Hopefully the buyer will get it figured out. And everyone will be happy.

I just looked at your ad, you put a photo of it, you said what you pulled it off of and it looks like carlosrosas1979 jumped right on it without any questions if that is who you sold it to. I think he may have buyers remorse for some reason.
I was accused of misrepresenting it, but I offered the actual original receipt from OutMotoring, and I pointed out that there is a 'hidden' JCW marking on the pipe which shows that it was the JCW version.
You seemed forthright with your ad and subsequent conversations with the buyer. Apparently, the buyer didn't do his homework.
I wouldn't lose any sleep over this. One thing to be aware of though is that sometimes buyers will pull the stunt where they demand a refund and return a different part. That happened to me twice selling high-end diecast cars on eBay. One time it got real nasty.
Lckily, I had recorded and photographed the serial number on the car I shipped. With that evidence, eBay dropped the complaint.
Let the seller beware!

Be sure to point out to PayPal (look it up first) that the 2012 car has a n18 motor ...the buyers has the n14...
It seems he failed to ensure the part would fit and be compatible with his car....
Then add the fact he may or may not have a fJCW...
The part sold is real....it is genuine, and apparently in good shape.
If you point all this out, IMO you should win hands down.
