Cooling fan operation

Using my OBDll I found that my cooling fan comes on a 219. The engine cools to 181. The fan stays on until I turn off the engine. Is this normal? Turning on the A/C turns on the fan. The fan will not cycle with the A/C. Fan remains on even with the A/C turned off. I must restart the engine to turn off the fan. What is the cure?

Thanks

Fan is supposed to turn off after the coolant temps drop below 214F.
If yours doesn't stop when you see coolant temps below 214F, the temp sensor could be flaking out, or OBD2 readings are from a different temp sensor than the one feeding the fan.

Otherwise, your car may be working as designed.

From Bentley: The cooling fan operates on low speed when the A/C is switched on and the system pressure reaches 8 bar. The fan switches to high speed should the A/C system pressure rise above 18 bar. For the engine cooling system, the fan operates on low speed at 105C (221F). When the temperature drops to 101C (214F) the fan will switch off. The fan switches to high speed at 112C (234F) and remains on high until the system coolant temperature drops by 4C (7F) at which point the system reverts to low speed.

Did you solve this issue?

blast from the past I know.
but I have the same issue where if I put the ac on the fan does eventually start, but when I turn the ac off the fan runs until the car is turned off.
the bigger problem is the fan does not start even after the temperature has reached 110oC before I put the ac on to start the fan.
I’ve changed the thermostat, fan, relays, checked all the fuses. I feel it’s the ECU not sending a signal to the relay, but would love to know if anyone else has any ideas, it did the same before I changed the thermostat, the thermostat came with a new temperature sensor. Does the Mini Cooper R55 2008 N12 1.6 only have one coolant temp sensor or am I missing something obvious?

I had to wire in a temporary on/off switch where the fan relay goes. It keeps the fan on low speed so engine won't overheat. I have also replaced everything possible except ecu. 😫

Hello, sorry to chime in but I've been having similar issue with my 08 Mini hatchback were the fan kicks in at only the high speed when I start the car and turns off almost 8 minutes after I turn the car off. I've been removing the relay so as not to kill my brand new battery and replacing it on hot days. Lately it's been cool so no worries for now but summer is creeping up and I know I'll need that fan on all the time in order for the ac to get cold.I tested the fan by connecting wires directly to the battery and it turns on so the fan works fine. In the fuse box there is a fan1 and fan2 and the wire connection to the fan has two pins so I'm guessing the fan stages is controlled by the relays. Only problem is I only have one really installed and I don't remember ever seeing two. I just ordered two brand new relays to see if maybe the problem is there but I figure any help from people who have gone through similar issues can only help.

Thanks
